Highway Connecting Jammu with Srinagar Reopened for Traffic

January 03 The National highway connection Jammu with Srinagar has been reopened for traffic after remaining closed for more than a day post fresh snowfall at various places on the National Highway. Officials in the traffic department told The Kashmiriyat that the vehicular movement has been restored on the highway and at least five hundred vehicles stranded on the highway will be allowed to move to Kashmir initially. "By tomorrow, we expect to restore the highway for traffic for a single way movement, " he said. 140 Militants Killed from June- December in Jammu Kashmir

January 02 Altogether 140 militants were killed by government forces in Jammu Kashmir between June and December 2018 during which 426 stone pelting incidents were also reported in the state, Union minister Hansraj Ahir said Wednesday. Replying to a written question in Rajya Sabha, he said 140 militants were killed from June 25 to December 5, 2018 in the state, where 119 militants violence took place during the period. The minister of state for home said 426 stone pelting incidents took place in Jammu and Kashmir in the said period in which 34 civilians were injured. As many as 171 forces personnel were killed while combating with militants in Kashmir and other parts of the country in 2016, 167 troops were killed in 2017 and 163 personnel in 2018 (till November).

Two Residential Houses Gutted in Baramulla

December 02 Shabir Khan Two residential houses were gutted in fire incident in Baramulla town of North Kashmir on Tuesday night. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that fire broke out in the house of Altaf Ahmed Kaloo, Bashir Ahmed Sheikh and Ishfaq Ahmed Kaloo all residents of Ganie Hamam in Old Town of Baramulla. They said that the houses were completely gutted in the fire, the house of one of the neighbours also suffered damage in the incident. Fire tenders with the help of locals brought fire under control. Police has taken cognizance of the issue and said the cause of fire is not known yet.
