January 02 Shabir Khan The Residents of Naidkhai (Kanipora) area staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday morning against PDD over the non availability of power supply for last one month in the area. A large number of people from Naidkhai (Kanipora) assembled near Power Receiving Station Naidkhai and staged a protest and blocked the Sopore -Sumbal road for four to five hours. Highway Connecting Jammu- Srinagar Blocked Due to Fresh Snowfall

January 02 Waris Shah The vehicular movement on the highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar has been temporarily suspended due to fresh snowfall at various places including the Jawahar tunnel. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that the traffic on the highway has been suspended as a precautionary measure due to fresh snowfall on both sides of the Banihal Shaitan Nalah and Jawahar tunnel. "The area has recorded several inches of snowfall since Tuesday night and we have ordered clearance of the highway however vehicular movement has been suspended on both sides as of now," the traffic official said. Snow Expected in the First Week of January, Kashmir Continues to Freeze under Immense Cold

December 31 Cold wave gripped Kashmir Valley including Ladakh region again on Monday after a days respite with weather officials predicting snowfall in the first week of January. The minimum temperature plummeted several notches below the freezing point in Kashmir’s capital city Srinagar to minus 6.6 while it was minus 2.2 on Sunday. An official of the Met department said the minimum temperature was minus 5.5 degree Celsius in Pahalgam, and minus 5 degree Celsius in Gulmarg. Leh recorded minus 14 degree Celsius as the minimum temperature, and in Kargil, it was minus 17.2 degree Celsius.

Gunshots heard during CASO in Baramulla

December 30 Gunshots have been heard during a cordon and search operation at Kreeri area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 29RR of Indian army and Jammu Kashmir Police had jointly launched a search operation in the area on Sunday afternoon. The entry and exit points were blocked as the operation was launched. Massive gunshots have been heard in the area, sources said. December 28 A photographer working for The Kashmiriyat has been injured while covering street protests in Kunzer area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Sajad Hameed said that while he was covering a protest in the area, a Policeman deployed in the area hit him with a bamboo stick on his arm. Sajad was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where the doctors said he escaped a near fracture and has been severely injured. Clashes Erupt in Kunzer, Two Including a Girl Injured

December 28 Sajad Hameed Two persons including a girl were injured when Government Forces fired tear smoke shells against protesters in Kunzer main market in North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of people including women gathered early morning in the main market of Kunzer to demand the whereabouts of a youth from the area. However upon gathering at the main market, the forces fired tear smoke shells at the protesters, injuring two of them. They were immediately shifted to the nearby hospital. December 28 An encounter that raged between Government Forces and Militants in the Renzipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District ended with the killing of one local Militant. The Militant was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad wani son of late Mohammad Yousuf wani resident of Koil village of Pulwama district who had joined the Militant outfit Lashkar e Taiba in July. Missing Girl found dead in a Canal in Kangan

December 27 Rayees Shah A girl who was missing from her home found dead on Thursday from a canal in Kangan area of Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the body of 20-year-old Rabiya Bano of Woodar Kangan was recovered from a canal. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigations, he said.
