The minimum temperatures remained below sub-zero level across Kashmir Valley even as the mercury rose across the Valley, the weatherman said on Monday. A meteorological department official told GNS that the mercury increased by a degree Celsius in Srinagar, settling at minus 2.0°C against the previous night’s 3.6°C. The summer capital of J&K has minus 0.4°C normal for this time of the year and for the last three days barring earlier night, the minimum temperature stayed above sub-zero level. Otherwise, the mercury has consistently remained far below normal this winter. On January 31, the mercury plunged to minus 8.8°C, the coldest January night recorded in Srinagar after 30 years. CRPF Officer Dies of Burn Injuries in Srinagar

A CRPF officer died after receiving burn injuries due to electric shock here in Kashmir capital Srinagar. Sources told that Assistant Sub Inspector from D/54 Battalion Dilbeer Singh was found dead at SKICC Srinagar. The officer as per sources was electrocuted while his service rifle was also found damaged in his picket at Morcha Number 5 at SKICC where he was posted. The deceased is a resident of Pathankot Punjab. Police sources while confirming his death said that a case has been registered in this regard. The Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday registered a criminal case against two brothers for allegedly running fraudulent finance companies here to dupe investors, an official said. The case against Vikas Mahajan and Lokesh Mahajan of Gurha Bakshi Nagar was registered under relevant sections of the law on a written complaint lodged by Paloura resident D K Gupta through the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), a spokesperson of the Crime Branch, Jammu, said.
