Hurriyat Activist Shot dead In Shopian

October 11 Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot dead a Hurriyat Activist in Memandar area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that An activist of Hurriyat Conference namely Tariq Ahmad Ganie was shot at by unknown gunmen at Memendar area. Tariq was rushed to the hospital however upon reaching the hospital, he was declared dead. He was associated with Masarat Alam's Muslim League and was an Armed Militant till 1996. A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that the investigation in the case has been launched.

Manan wani Among Militants Killed in Handwara

October 11 Ph.d Scholar,  Manan Bashir Wani of Lolab, Kupwara who had joined Militancy earlier this year has been killed in the ongoing gunfight at Sotigam in Handwara area on North Kashmir's Kupwara District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that The gunfight broke out after a joint team of army’s 30 RR and SOG cordoned off Shatgund Balla area during wee hours of Thursday. A Police official confirmed that Two militants were killed in the operation adding one of slain is Manan Bashir Wani, a PhD scholar turned militant. The officer said the operation was concluded in the area. At least 10 Injured During Clashes in Handwara

October 11 At least ten people have been injured in stone throwing clashes between protesters and Government Forces in Sotigam in Handwara on Thursday afternoon. Sources told The Kashmiriyat youth in large numbers hit the streets of Sotigam and threw stones on Government Forces, the forces responded with immense tear smoke shelling in which at least ten people were injured. "Four People who have been injured in the clashes were brought to the hospital and out of them two have received Bullet Injuries," a hospital Official at SDH Handwara told The Kashmiriyat.

Massive Clashes Continue at the Encounter Site in Handwara

October 11 Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in  Shotgund village of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district where a gunfight between militants and forces is underway. Two Militants are believed to be holed up  as a massive gunfire on from both the sides, Sources told The Kashmiriyat. Army Man injured in Pakistani Firing

October 11 A soldier was injured after Pakistan army allegedly violated the truce in Krishna Gati sector along the line of control (LoC) in Poonch district. Pradeep Kumar Gupta of army’s 5 Mahar was injured when Pakistani army fired upon his post in KG sector late night on Wednesday. The wounded army man was removed to the army hospital for treatment by his colleagues. His condition is stated to be stable.

Two Militants Killed in Ongoing Handwara Encounter

October 11 Two Militants have been killed an encounter broke out between government forces and militants in  Shotgund in Handwara of North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday. Officials had told The Kashmiriyat that a joint team of Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF cordoned Shotgund locality of Handwara last night and started a search operation. "The Hiding Militants Opened fire upon the troops, however the Militants managed to escape the initial site of the gunfight, the troops continued the search OPs during which Militants again opened fire, triggering an encounter," he said. Internet Barred in South Kashmir ahead of Polls

October 06 Mobile internet services have been barred in South Kashmir Districts of Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Islamabad (Anantnag) ahead of the Urban Local body polls scheduled to begin on the eighth day of October. A Telecom official told The Kashmiriyat that they have received an order to bar internet services in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) and Pulwama, and in Shopian and Kulgam they were asked to reduce the internet speed. However Locals from Kulgam and Shopian said that Internet has been barred in the entire South Kashmir region. No Official confirmation could be received regarding the barring of Internet Services, However sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the services have been barred as a precautionary measure for the upcoming polls.
