Lady Shot at in Pulwama by unknown Gunmen

September 08 Unknown gunmen on Saturday fired upon a lady near Jamia Masjid of Pulwama in Muran area of South Kashmir district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that gunmen opened fire upon a lady injuring her critically. The last was immediately shifted to the District hospital in Pulwama. As per initial reports, the lady has veen identified as Simran and owns a beauty parlour in Pulwama. A police official told The Kashmiriyat that they're ascertaining the details of the said incident.

After Hurriyat Activist, IS Militant shot by Unidentified Gunmen in Kashmir

September 08 Hakeem ur Rehman Sultani, a Hurriyat activist was shot dead on Saturday by unknown gunmen at Bomai area, Sopore of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that gunmen fired upon Hakim-ul-Rehman Sultani, an activist of Geelani's Hurriyat outside his home in Reshipora Bomai. Sultani is survived by his wife and four daughters. Two Trekkers Dead in a Glacier Burst at Pahalgam Area

September 07 Two persons on Friday died in a glacier burst at the Kolhai Glacier in Pahalgam area of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that two persons identified as Naveed Jeelani  (KAS), Excise and Taxation Officer and Adil Shah of Alpine Adventure group died on the Kolhai Glacier. A group of seven people had left from Aru two days back to the Kolhai glacier, however today only four of them returned informing the concerned officials that two people had died on the glacier while one of them identified as Haziq was critically wounded. Policemen in Civvies Arrest Youth During Stone Pelting in Srinagar

September 07 Four youth accused of stone throwing have been arrested by Jammu Kashmir Policemen in civvies during a Stone throwing protest at Nowhatta area in Srinagar on Friday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of youth hit the streets after the Friday congregation prayers at the Grand mosque of Srinagar. The youth soon threw stones on Government Forces deployed in the area resulting in intense clashes. When the cops started chasing the youth away, some masked men caught four youth and handed them over to the Jammu Kashmir Police, Sources said. One of the photos with a masked man carrying pistol has gone viral over social networking. A local said that Policemen mingled with the protesters and arrested four youth during the protest.

Government Asks Wazzas to Get registered

September 07 The Government of Jammu Kashmir has the Wazzas (Wazwaan Cooks) to get themselves registered  with Food and Safety authority of Jammu Kashmir. Commissioner Food Safety has issued an advisory asking the cooks to get themselves registered with immediate effect in their respective locations with the Department. The advisory has asked people to not allow unauthorized cooks and not to allow them to use colouring agents in the Wazwaan.

5 Drug Peddlers arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police

September 07 Five suspected drug peddlers were arrested and intoxicants seized from their possession in separate searches in Jammu region. A police party intercepted two persons in the Supwal area in Samba district Thursday night and seized around 150 intoxicant capsules from them, a police official claimed. The duo was arrested and a case has been registered, police said. Balvinder Singh was arrested following a tip-off at Tikri-Katra link road in Udhampur district, they said, adding that over 500 intoxicant capsules were seized from him. A police team intercepted a man, identified as Jaswant Singh, during checking in the Nagri area of Kathua district Thursday night.

Jammu Kashmir Police seizes 42 kilo Poppy

September 09 The Jammu Kashmir police arrested Thursday two truckers and seized a total of 42 kgs of poppy from them, foiling two separate bids to smuggle the narcotics to Punjab from the state. The arrests were made from Kathua and Ramban districts, a police official said. The first truck was intercepted at Banihal in Ramban district with 25 kgs of poppy, following which its driver Gurvinder Singh was arrested and a case was registered under the NDPS Act against him, the official said. Kashmir Looses 1000 people to Accidents every Year, Highest in India

September 06 While the government is maintaining that it is trying to make roads safe, every year around 1000 people die in road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir. The state has also topped the list of “high accidental death-prone areas” in a National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) survey. The survey has found that an accident in Jammu Kashmir State has a 64 percent chance of causing death as opposed to 36.4 percent for all of India. Data also show that more than half of those killed in road accidents were in the productive age group of 15 to 34, pointing to a calamitous loss of young lives.
