After heavy snowfall in Kashmir, the Jammu Srinagar national highway (NHW) has been blocked due to snow accumulation at Jawahar Tunnel and Landslides/mudslides at several places. According to Kashmir weather, Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely to continue till tomorrow morning with occasional breaks. Significant improvement in weather is expected from tomorrow afternoon. However, isolated light snowfall activities will continue till 8th Jan.

Major Snowfall in Kashmir; Air Traffic Remains Suspended, Highways Closed

The major snowfall of the season left the entire Kashmir blanketed in varying depths of the white stuff even as air traffic remained suspended while Jammu-Srinagar and Mughal road remained closed. Snowfall began late on Saturday night in most parts of Kashmir and continued throughout the night with large swathes of south Kashmir receiving more snowfall than north and central parts of the Valley, the officials said. Srinagar, the summer capital of the J&K, received snowfall of 13.4cms in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, a MeT official told GNS. SHAH BASIT At least four persons were injured in a road accident at the Ganiwan area of Ganderbal District on the Srinagar-Leh highway on Sunday Morning. Reports said that a passenger bus bearing registration number JK01D 5574 traveling from Gund to Kangan skid from the road near Ganiwan resulting in injuries to Four passengers traveling in the bus. Scores of aspirants, who were scheduled to appear in the examination for the recruitment of Banking Associate in J&K Bank alleged that they were not allowed to enter the examination hall. The aspirants said that due to the fresh snowfall, they couldn't reach the examination hall on time. Moderate to heavy snowfall started on Sunday in Kashmir and Ladakh while rains lashed the Jammu division, Weather office has forecast widespread snowfall in many areas of the valley on Sunday and Monday with heavy snowfall at isolated places. Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway has been halted because of snow accumulation in the Jawahar Tunnel sector of the highway.
