Dead Body of 20 year old Youth Found in Jhelum

August 18 The dead body of a youth from Budgam who had drowned in Jhelum river was retrieved by SDRF men on Saturday afternoon. Officials said that Shabir's dead body was recovered post two days on Saturday in jhelum at Nawa Kadal in Srinagar. Shabir Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Rahman Sheikh, a resident of Sitaharan Khag area of Budgam who was 20 years old and working as a labourer had drowned in Jhelum at Nawakadal Srinagar.

Jammu Kashmir Police Arrests three Drug Peddlers in Sopore

August 18 The Police Station Sopore received an information regarding the movement of drug peddlers in Sopore on Friday after which a Naka was laid by Station House Officer, Police Station Sopore at Batpora Crossing road. During the checking, Three persons were intercepted and during checking 31 bottles of SYSCODINE, ONEREX and 104 Capsules of SPASMOPROXVYON PLUS were recovered from their possession. The three were soon detained and identified as Aamir Akbar Mir, a resident of Mumkak Sopore, Taufeeq Ahmad Lone resident of Khamvyar Pattan and Tauqeed Ahmad, a resident of Khamvyar Pattan. The Jammu Kashmir Police has registered a Case in this regard under the FIR No. 227/2018 U/S 8/22  NDPS Act  and further investigation has been taken up.

Local Imam Arrested with Fukki in North Kashmir

August 17 Sajad Hameed In another shocking incident, the Jammu Kashmir Police arrested the Imam of a Masjid Imam allegedly for Drug Dealing in Pattan area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. A Police official told The Kashmiriyat that the Imam was held with drugs in North Kashmir’s Pattan on Friday morning after he was taken into immediate detention. The Imam has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Mia a resident of Pattan. The Police official said that he was arrested with consignment of Fukki (poppy straw) in Pattan area on Friday.  

One Army Soldier Killed in Handwara Encounter- Full Story

August 17 Shabir Khan An army soldier was killed in a brief gunfight at Kralgund area of Handwara in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday morning. A police Official told The Kashmiriyat that 32 RR of Indian Army launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) at Kachlu village during wee hours of Friday. As soon as the troops intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a brief gunfight, he told adding that an army soldier suffered critical bullet wounds and was shifted to nearby military hospital for treatment. "The Soldier later succumbed to his Injuries and identified him as Rifleman Rambabu Sahi," he told The Kashmiriyat. Meanwhile locals told The Kashmiriyat that the searches were ongoing in the area to trace out the hiding militants.

At least 500 Locals have Joined Militancy Since 2010

Reports estimate that as many as 500 local youth have become militants out of whom the majority have come from South Kashmir. Road Accident in Baramulla- 8 Injured

August 16 Atleast eight passengers sustained injuries after vehicle they were traveling in turned turtle at Nowpora wagoora village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday. Sources said that a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK05-4851 was on its way to Baramulla from Khaitangan village when the driver lost control and vehicle turned turtle at Nowpora village, resulting injuries to eight passengers. All the injured were rushed to local hospital for  treatment.
