Ex Militant Dies in Kot Bhalwal Jail

July 17 A 70-year-old pro-freedom activist, who was lodged in Kotbalwal jail, Jammu under Public Safety Act (PSA) breathed his last inside the jail  Tuesday, Reports said. Identified as Ghulam Hassan Malik a popular pro freedom activist of Uri. Malik  was a resident of Pehlipora village of  Uri  and was arrested in January this year and was lodged under public safety act (PSA) in Kotbalwal jail Jammu, they said. According to reports Malik was ill and was taken to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, for a medical check-up by jail authorities, where he breathed his last.

Clashes in GDC Kupwara Over Civilian Killing

July 17 Clashes erupted in Kupwara's Government Degree College on Tuesday against the killing of a civilian in Trehgam area of North Kashmir. Students told The Kashmiryat that scores of students gathered in the college compound raising pro Freedom and Anti India slogans. "The Students raising pro Freedom slogans demanded an end to the killing Spree," a student said. Hundreds of students have gathered in the college compound denouncing the killing 19 year old Khalid Malik killed in Army Firing. The Clashes erupted when the Government Forces disallowed the students from Marching ahead. The protests were going on when this report was filed.

Protest in Kupwara as Police Fails to Trace Minor Boy

July 17 Scores of locals from Kupwara blocked the Kupwara-Tanghdar road at Batergam area in North Kashmir demanding the whereabouts of a 11 year old minor boy who has gone missing since yesterday morning. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the people of the area blocked the road to appeal the police to speed up the efforts to trace the 8 year old boy. Notably, Omar Farooq Malik aged 8 son of Farooq Ahmad Malik of Gulgam has been missing from home since 4 pm on Monday. The Family had lodged a missing report in the Kupwara Police station.

Five Injured In Sonamarg Road Accident

July 17 Rayees Shah Five people were injured on Tuesday morning when a truck collided with an Oil tanker at Sonamarg area in Ganderbal district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a truck bearing registration number JK05A /8166 collided with the Oil Tanker (bearing number JK02V/2984, resulting in injuries to five persons. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

July 16 Another Youth from North Kashmir's Sopore has joined Militant ranks making him one of more than hundreds of  youth to have joined Militant ranks this year. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Ishfaq Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir resident of Gund Mohalla Brath Kallan Sopore, has joined Militant ranks. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that 23 year old was missing from his home in Brath Kalan in Sopore from the past ten days. His photo with an AK 47 has gone viral over the social networking. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that they're checking the authenticity of the photo that has appeared on the internet. In the last week, six youth from North Kashmir had posed with rifles announcing their entry into the Militant ranks.
