467 Local Youth have Joined Militancy Since 2010, 335 from South Kashmir

July 16 The Kashmir valley has been seeing a constant rise in the number of Militant recruitment after the fall the summer uprising of 2010. Reports estimate that as many as 467 local youth have become militants out of whom them 335 have come from 247 villages in South Kashmir. A report by Indian agencies has spotlighted the spread of the militancy that was quelled in 2010, but surged after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016. The report reveals that Pulwama district in South Kashmir tops the list, with 142 local youth from having joined militancy since 2010. Asiya Andrabi Sent to 30- Day Judicial Custody in Funding Case

July 16 The National investigating Agency Court has sent Asiya Andrabi and two others for 30 days judicial custody. The three presented before the court after their judicial custody, in connection with two separate cases registered against them including terror funding. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Delhi had earlier granted 10 day police custody of Asiya Andrabi and her two associates Nahida Nasreen and Sofi Fahmeeda - all belonging to Dukhtaran e Milat. She was named in Kashmir terror funding case. Asiya and her aides were in a case related to instigation of mob leading to organised stone-pelting in South Kashmir's Islamabad district.

3 Youth from Jammu Region have Likely Joined Militants

July 16 Amid growing Militancy in Kashmir, the militancy is moving to the Chenab Valley of Jammu region as well. The last week, a photograph of Abid Hussain Butt of Soujan from Doda town joining Lashkar-e-Toiba had gone viral over the social networking. Now one more youth identified as Talib Gujjar of Kishtwar District has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen, as per news reports. Talib is said to be missing from his home for the past two years. 7 Killed, 50 Injured in Reasi landslides

July 15 Seven people died while at least two dozen were injured in a landslide in Siyad Baba area of Reasi in Jammu Kashmir on Sunday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the area located on the banks of River Chenab witnessed a large crowds on Sunday as people had gathered for picnic. The landslide struck the area around 2:30 pm when many people were taking a bath near a small stream. As per initial reports the Government Forces have initiated massive rescue operations as many are believed to be trapped in the landslide. The Injured, meanwhile have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.

105 Couples Tie Knot in a Grand Marriage Ceremony

July  15 Kashmir on Sunday witnessed biggest mass marriage when 105 couples tied knot at Srinagar’s Amar Singh Club. Although the function was simple, but hundreds of people had gathered to witness a first of its kind event in Kashmir. The function was organized by Jafri council of Kashmir and the majority of the deserving couples belonged to northern parts of Kashmir’s Uri, Pattan, Baramulla, Sumbal and central Kashmir’s Srinagar, and Budgam. The Jafri council has previously held such functions but the number never passed 100. In 2015 the Council undertook marrying 38 couples from deserving categories of the society. Carpenter Dies After Falling down from Rooftop

July  15 A carpenter fell to his death when he suddenly slipped from a rooftop of an under construction building for a hospital in the central Badgam on Sunday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a group of workers were working on rooftop of under construction hospital building in Badgam when a carpenter fell down from the rooftop of the building. He was shifted to the hospital, but he does before he could reach the hospital, Sources added. The deceased has been identified as Mudasir Gani Wagay son of Abdul Gani Wagay from Budgam. Police have registered a case and taken up the investigation, they said.

July 14 General AK Bhatt of Indian Army on Saturday urged Kashmiri youths to desist from stone-pelting on Government Force personnel in the Valley. Bhatt said that the residents and the young minds, residing in Jammu Kashmir, must also keep themselves away from the area where the army is carrying out the operations. July 14 The Chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Mehmood Shah on Saturday said Indian Army has “yet again kept its tradition of cowardice alive by harassing, intimidating and even arresting family members of freedom fighters”.
