Two militants killed in ongoing Sopore encounter

Two militants have been killed during the ongoing encounter between militants and government forces in the Sagipora area of Sopore in north Kashmir's Barmulla district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that the encounter raged on Thursday night when militants opened fire on a team of government forces that had launched a cordon and search operation in the area. The encounter was suspended for night for precautionary measures, however, security forces had sealed all the exits points near the targeted house, leaving no chances for militants to escape, he said. Today, with first light of morning operation was resumed and during the exchange of gunfire two militants have been killed. Till this report was being filed, intense exchange of fire was going on.

Exchange of fire resumed between militants and security forces on Friday after night long lull in Sagipora area of North Kashmir's Sopore. A top police officer told GNS that on a specific input on Thursday evening a joint team of Police and army cordoned the suspected area. During searches there was some Exchange of fire with militants, however operation was suspended for night for precautionary measures. Some gunshots were heard during cordon and search operation in Sagipora area of North Kashmir’s Sopore on Thursday evening. Two Village Defense Group (VDG) members have been killed by suspected militants in the Kishtwar district of Jammu Kashmir. According to a report by Daily Excelsior, on Thursday afternoon, the two were killed in the forest area of Munjla in the district. A Border Security Forces trooper shot himself to death with his rifle in Bobiya area in Kathua district on Thursday afternoon. An official told News Vibes of India that a trooper of 159 Battalion BSF, who was currently undergoing AMR Handling Course with 82 Bn BSF at Bobiya, shot himself with his rifle. "The trooper was soon after evacuated to SDH Hiranagar, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival," the official said.
