DIG South Kashmir hit with a Bullet during Pulwama Encounter

February 18 Deputy Inspector General of police south Kashmir range, Amit Kumar sustained a bullet injury in his leg during an ongoing encounter between militants and forces at Pinglan village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama. “Yes DIG South Kashmir received a bullet injury in his leg but he is stable,” the officer said. So far four soldiers including a major and two militants of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant including the “mastermind of recent Lethpora suicide attack” were killed in the encounter. Earlier, a lieutenant colonel of army also got injured in the fresh firing at the encounter site.

17 year Old Kashmiri Girl Missing in Jammu Since Friday Violence

February 18 Amid a flare up in violence in Jammu post the attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, a 17 year old girl has went missing from the area. The family of the girl identified as Sameera Akhtar, told The Kashmiriyat over phone that Sameera had went to the nearby shop to purchase detergent powder. Residing in a rented accomodation in Bag e Bahu area of Jammu, she did not come back after that, his father told The Kashmiriyat. Sameera, a 17 year old girl had moved to Jammu in December, and is a resident of Khag area in Budgam in Central Kashmir. February 18 The Indian Army has blocked the traffic movement on the National Highway near Awantipora in South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the traffic from Srinagar plying towards Islamabad (anantnag) was stopped creating a traffic mess on the national Highway around 2 PM.   One of the two Militants slain in the nocturnal encounter that raged in Pulwama's Pinglan area has been identified. Pulwama encounter update Officials told The Kashmiriyat that one of the Militants is a local grom Pinglan identified as Hilal Ahmed Nayak. Mobile Internet Services Snapped in Kashmir Valley

February 17 Mobile internet services were Saturday suspended in most parts of Kashmir while the network speed was throttled in other parts as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order, officials said. Mobile internet has been suspended in south Kashmir’s four districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama and central Kashmir’s Srinagar and Budgam districts, they said. The officials said the network speed has been throttled in north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts. They said the high speed internet has been suspended as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the wake of alleged harassment of Kashmiri people in Jammu and outside the state. The trade bodies in the valley have called for Kashmir bandh on Sunday.

Traffic Allowed on Both Sides on Kashmir Highway

February 16 One-way traffic was allowed on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Saturday and only stranded vehicles are moving from Jammu to Srinagar, a traffic official said. Around 7,000 vehicles stranded in the Kashmir Valley would only be allowed to move towards the Jammu region after the highway was completely decongested, the official added. He said that the process might get smoother by later in the day.
