CASO Launched in Sopore Area

February 10 A cordon and search operation (CASO) has been launched by Government Forces in Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday afternoon morning, 22 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation in Thakkgund Area of Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla District. ALSO READ: Two Militants Killed in Early Morning Encounter at Budgam Following inputs about Militant movement in the area, the forces blocked all the entry and exit points of the area.   A door to door search operation had been launched when this report was filed.

February 13 The streets of Jammu witnessed chaos, protests and slogans on Monday as stranded Kashmir passengers were asked to visit the Auqaf Hostel from where they will be airlifted to Srinagar as the highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar remained blocked. On Monday, several Kashmiris gathered in Auqaf hostel in Jammu City as they had been asked to do by officials. Nearly 4,000 stranded passengers, including women and children were stranded in Jammu for six days; they have been put up at the General Bus Stand. Minor Girl Dies in Road Accident in Pattan

February 13 Shabir Khan A 12 year old girl died in a road accident in Pattan area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a passenger vehicle (number JK09 8170) skidded off the main road near Zangam petrol pump on Wednesday morning. This accident lead to the death of one minor girl identified as urba Ahad, daughter of Abdul Ahad sofi, a resident of Arampora in Kupwara district. The Local Poolice has registered a case in this regard and taken up investigation.  

Two Militants Killed in Early Morning Encounter at Budgam

February 13 Two Militants have been killed in an early morning encounter has started between militants and Government forces at wathroora area in Central Kashmir’s Budgam District. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. Immediately the troops cordoned off the area and the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight two Militants have been killed. The identities of the slain have not been confirmed as of yet.

February 13 Another early morning encounter has started between militants and Government forces at wathroora area in Central Kashmir’s Budgam District. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. Immediately the troops cordoned off the area and the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per initial reports available to The Kashmiriyat two to three militants were trapped in a residential house in the area. However as per the latest reports the firing has stopped. Finally After Seven Days, One Way traffic Restored on Kashmir Highway

February 12 After remaining blocked for seven days, the National Highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar has been reopened for one way vehicular movement. An official said that, On Tuesday, the stranded light-motor vehicles (LMVs) and fuel tankers were allowed to move towards Kashmir valley. At least three thousand vehicles are stranded on the 300 Kilometer long Highway which connects Srinagar with Jammu through a hilly Terrain. The official said that traffic was allowed to move due to the shortage of supplies in the Kashmir valley.

Sikhs Open Doors for Stranded Kashmiri Passengers in Jammu, Provide Free Langar in Guruduwaras

February 12 The Sikh community in Jammu has once again won the hearts of millions of Kashmiris by opening the doors of Gurduwaras for stranded Kashmir passengers. They have arranged free food in Gurduwaras as sections of Local populace of Jammu continue to hold protest against the Kashmir passengers. In messages being widely circulated on Whatsapp and Facebook groups, the members of the community have asked stranded Kashmir passengers to visit gurduwaras where food has been arranged for the passengers. February 12 The Joint Resistance Leadership on Tuesday called for a complete shutdown on February 13 and 14 when pleas on article 35-A are scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court. The JRL comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik  said that people of Jammu Kashmir will forcefully resist every challenge by New Delhi to change the demography of the State. “Leadership is fully aware of the developments and is cautiously observing the situation and these tactics cannot deceive leadership or the people of Kashmir. It is an extremely critical issue of the our very existence as a people and of our disputed status.”

Kashmir Highway Remains Shut for The Seventh Consecutive Day

February 12 The Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed on seven consecutive day today, reports said. They said that even as the road remained blocked due to accumulated debris and intermittent shooting stones at T2, Maroog and Panthyal in Ramban- Banihal axis, the restoration work is going on. Meanwhile, authorities had claimed to take a decision on opening of the road on Tuesday morning.
