Kashmir’s Grand Mufti, Bashir ud Din Passes Away in Srinagar

February 12 The grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Bashir ud Din passed away after a brief illness in Srinagar's Sher e Kashmir institute of Medical Sciences. Bashir ud Din, who was a staunch supporter of Kashmir's Freedom struggle fell ill the last week and was immediately referred to the SKIMS Hospital. A resident of Soura in Srinagar, Mufti Bashir spent the last days of his life in the hospital and kept helping the poor people even from the hospital bed. A family member confirming the death said, "My Great Uncle, the Grand Mufti of Kashmir, has just passed away. He was an incredible voice for the people of Kashmir and spent his life fighting for Kashmiri independence". The funeral prayers of Grand Mufti will be held at 3:30 pm at Khanqah e Moula in Srinagar.

Dozens of Stranded Kashmir Passengers Thrashed in Jammu, Stones Pelted on Them

February 11 Dozens of stranded Kashmiri passengers in Jammu were assaulted by locals near Science College in Jammu. An eyewitness who was also thrashed by the locals told The Kashmiriyat that the stranded passengers had been asked to gather near the Science college in Jammu from where they will be airlifted. However upon reaching there, some local students came and started thrashing the Kashmiri passengers, he said. February 11 Various Journalists were barred by Government Forces from visiting the house of JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat's residence in Trehgam Kupwara on Monday. Thousands of People Visit the House of Slain Scholar, Other Slain Militants

February 11 Thousands of people on Monday are visiting the houses of slain Militants in Kulgam and Islamabad (anantnag) district to express solidarity with the families. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that people in large numbers are marching towards the house of slain Scholar Waseem Ahmed Rather in Quimoh Kulgam. Waseem was a teacher and a Ph.D scholar before he joined Militancy in May 2018. He also provided free tuition to students in his locality, a local told The Kashmiriyat. Garment Shop Gutted in a Fire Incident in Tangmarg

February 11 Sajad Hameed A garments shop was gutted in a fire incident in Chandilora area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday. The shop, Life Style ready made garments shop, owned by Mohd Ashraf Tali R/o Zeran Tangmarg, was gutted after fire broke out in the shop at around 10:30pm last night. Locals rushed to the shop and to douse the flames however fire couldn’t be controlled turning the shop into ashes. The reason of fire was not immediately known.

February 10 People of Kargil on Sunday staged a massive protest on Sunday against the governor’s decision of setting up the office headquarter only at Leh, after granting Ladakh the division stature. Thousands of locals including social activists took on roads and staged a protest demonstration against the decision of not giving an equal share to the people of Kargil following the announcement from the state governor to give the separate division to the Ladakh. The locals are demanding that the office headquarters of the new ‘division’ should be at a rotational basis. All Slain Militants Identified, Bodies Handed Over to Families

February 10 The five slain Militants killed in Kelam encounter in Kulgam district of South Kashmir have been identified by Police. The Police identified the slain as Waseem Bashir Rather alias Zeeshan of Ashumji Kulgam, Zahid Parray of Gopal Pora, Damhal Hanjipora, Kulgam, Idrees Bhat of Arwani, Aaqib Nazir of Zangal Pora Kulgam and Parvaz Bhat (Hubaib) of Mukdampora, Quimoh, Kulgam. An Army official told The Kashmiriyat that five dead bodies were recovered from the encounter site on Sunday noon.
