Eye flu cases rise over 21,000 in Jammu Kashmir

Hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir continue to receive patients complaining of irritation, redness, swelling and itching in their eyes with rise in 'eye flu' patients. Doctors from Kashmir and Jammu divisions told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that cases of conjunctivitis, popularly known as ‘eye flu’, are on the rise. They, however, said there is no need to worry as it goes away in one to two weeks. An official from the Directorate of Health Services Jammu told KNO that 12,598 cases of conjunctivitis were reported in Jammu division including GMC Jammu. Youth found hanging under mysterious circumstances in apple orchard in Shopian

Meer Irfan A youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Shopian district of south Kashmir. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday morning locals spotted the body of one local youth (name with held) hanging inside an orchard in the Zaipora area of Shopian. The government forces on Tuesday morning averted a major tragedy by detecting and destroying an improvised explosive device (IED) in Panjgrain Nagrota in Jammu division. An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that suspicious object after found at Jammu division been destroyed by the Technical Team / Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) through a controlled mechanism. The head Imam of revered mosque at Makhdoom Sahab passed away after a brief illness in Srinagar. Locals told The Kashmiriyat on Monday morning, Peerzada Haji Ali Mohammed Makhdoomi passed away at his residence in Srinagar district of central Kashmir. They said that he had been serving at the mosque of the revered Sufi Saint Makdoom Sahab also referred to as Sultan e Kashmir for several decades. The funeral prayer is scheduled after Namaz i Asar at Makhdoom sahab at 5:45 pm today, they said.

Nocturnal encounter breaks out in Pulwama

An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Paregam area South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said. They told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a joint of team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area. They said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. The administration said that a record of over 36 Lakh persons participated in the August 15 celebrations held across the Jammu Kashmir.
