The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized four leopard skin and arrested eight persons, from Jammu Kashmir, who were involved in illegal wildlife trade. An operation was launched by the DRI after receiving information on the trade by a few gang members in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Teams of DRI from Mumbai Zonal Unit (Goa Regional Unit) reached Srinagar in J&K and the officers posed as prospective buyers of the leopard skin and a detailed plan was made to track the accused persons. After several rounds of negotiations, the officers brought the first skin of a leopard in Srinagar near Dalgate and tracked down the remaining men. The Jammu Kashmir High Court quashed the "preventive" detention of five Kashmiris including four residents of south Kashmir. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that High court observed that the detention order was based on such "vague and stale grounds" and is not sustainable, for the reason that the detaining authority before passing the order has not applied its mind to draw subjective satisfaction to order detention of the detenue by curtailing his liberty. The High court also said that non-consideration or an unreasonably belated consideration of the representation tantamount to non-compliance of Article 22(5) of the Constitution, which in turn renders the detention unsustainable in law. With the number of pilgrims visiting the holy cave of Amarnath witnessing a constant decline, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) on Saturday announced that the ongoing Amarnath Yatra would be allowed on alternate days only. SASB which is managing the annual yatra has decided to run the yatra on alternate days from Jammu to the holy cave in Pahalgam from Saturday. As per media reports, 1,662 pilgrims from twin tracks of Baltal and Nunwan-Pahalgam performed darshan at holy cave by Friday evening. With this, the total number of 4,30,073 pilgrims visited the holy cave in last 42 days since the start of 62 day long yatra on July 1 this year.
