A youth from Budgam ended his life by jumping into river Jhelum at Safakadal bridge last night. Reports reaching said that an undergraduate student from the Khag area of Budgam jumped into the river Jhelum at around 8 pm on Wednesday evening. The youth had gone missing from his home at 1 pm yesterday. “Initially, the family tried to call his number but it was switched off. Later we came to know that he had kept his phone on flight mode in his room at home,” a family member told The Kashmiriyat. The family then posted his photo on social media site Facebook calling the general public for help in tracing him out. “Around 7pm we received a call that he was standing at a bridge in Safakadal,” they said. A Cordon and Search Operation has been launched in Srinagar's Qamarwari area after gunshots were heard on Thursday morning in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that gunshots were heard around the area on Thursday morning creating panic in the whole area. "Some gunshot like sound was heard in Qamarwari area. Police team is in the locality to ascertain facts, there is no damage or injury whatsoever. Cordon and Search Operations launched in the area," Srinagar Police tweeted. Several media organizations have issued a joint statement over the detention of Kashmiri journalist, Fahad Shah, who was arrested on February 04, 2022. A full year has passed since Fahad Shah, editor of The Kashmir Walla newspaper and an internationally respected reporter with whom we have worked, was arrested on Feb. 4, 2022, in Kashmir for publishing “anti-national content," the joint statement read. Weather was dry in Jammu Kashmir during the last 24 hours as the MeT office said on Thursday that dry weather with partly cloudy sky is likely to continue. “Dry, partly cloudy weather is likely in J-K during the next 24 hours,” an official of the Meteorological (MeT) department said. Srinagar had 1.3, Pahalgam minus 1.9 and Gulmarg minus 2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. In Ladakh region, Drass town had minus 10.9, Kargil minus 10.8 and Leh minus 7 as the minimum temperature. Jammu had 11.2, Katra 12, Batote 8.2, Banihal 4 and Bhaderwah 4.6 as the minimum temperature.

Non-availability of public transport in evening hours has caused immense hardships to the people of several villages in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, commuters complained here on Wednesday. Commuters from several villages including TA-Shah, Arin, Gundpora-Rampora, CA-Khan and Gamroo told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are facing immense problems due to lack of public transport service in the evening hours for the last four months.
