A family from Kanir area of Budgam’s Chadoora area in central Kashmir alleged that they were attacked by miscreants during the dark of the night. The springs and other water resources in Lolab, also known as Lolab Valley, in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, are getting polluted, with authorities paying no heed to it. Lolab Valley has many springs which are traversed by a stream known as Lalkul (Lahwal). The water to Lalkul is contributed by numerous tributaries flowing from surrounding hills which are closed by the dense forests of Deodar. It is a splendour and perennial water resource. The admin on Thursday said that around 5000 kanal of custodian land have been retrieved across Kashmir in the last two years and that the people whose property is being illegally occupied by the land grabbers should approach the department to take a due course in this regard. Officials of the revenue Department on Thursday took possession of a commercial building constructed on the State land in the Srigufwara area of the district, allegedly belonging to a BJP leader. As per a news report by Daily Excelsior, this was one of the rare occasions that the officials did not go out for the demolition or sealing of the shops, rather called the shopkeepers and informed them that the possession of the complex was taken by the admin and the rent of the shops to the BDO office.
