Eight cases were registered against land owners, including hoteliers, for not providing details of tenants to police in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, officials said on Saturday. Four cases each were registered at the Katra and the Reasi police stations under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the official said. He said all landlords and hotel owners had been directed to submit details of their tenants and domestic helps to the police stations concerned. Police have verified the identities of 326 tenants staying in different areas of the district so far, the official added. A 40-year-old Kashmiri businessman, who was abducted by his two business partners from Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate area, was rescued from Punjab, an official said on Saturday, NDTV reported. After six hours, Delhi Police along with its counterpart Punjab Police managed to rescue the victim and nabbed the kidnappers from Phagwara in Punjab. Weather in Jammu Kashmir remained dry mostly during the last 24 hours, IANS reported. The MeT office said on Sunday that Jammu will have dry weather and Kashmir valley will have rain/snow at isolated places during the next 24 hours. "Weather would be dry in Jammu division with rain/snow at isolated places in the Valley during next 24 hours", an official of the MeT department said. Srinagar had 1.8, Pahalgam minus 5.4 and Gulmarg minus 6.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today. On world cancer day, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday called for population-based cancer screening in Kashmir valley. “With cancer reaching epidemic proportions in the valley, screening people for cancer is the need of the hour,” said DAK President Dr. Nisar ul Hassan. Dr. Hassan said cancer screening detects disease early and reduces the risk of dying from the disease.
