A soldier allegedly committed suicide in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday. Official sources said that bullet-ridden body of a soldier was found in a pool of blood in the washroom in Boniyar Uri, where the deceased soldier was posted. The slain soldier has been identified as Rahul Bhagat son of Anand Bhagat of Maharashtra. Sources added that the cause of the death of the soldier is still unknown and it is not clear whether the soldier has committed suicide with his service rifle or had become the prey of accidental fire. Police have started an investigation under 174 CrPC in this regard. (KNT)

Doctors at sub-district hospital Beerwah in Central Kashmir's Budgam district claimed to have extracted the world’s “longest” tooth. Block medical officer Beerwah, Dr Javaid Ahmad told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that this tooth was extracted on Saturday at SDH Beerwah and was found over 37.5 mm on measuring the tooth. He said the dental surgeon posted there was already informed when the patient was observed that this may be the world's longest tooth. A school bus and at least 100 apple boxes were gutted in a fire incident in Haril Mawar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night, official sources said on Monday. They said that the bus (JK09-9791) of New Millennium Public School Handwara, parked on a roadside open area in Darbal village of Haril Mawer, was completely gutted in the fire incident. They said that there were at least 100 apple boxes, stacked nearby; belonging to one Mohammad Jamal Sheikh, were also gutted in the fire incident. There was no injury or loss of life reported in the incident, they said. Police has arrested two persons in connection with the recent blast in Udhampur district of J&K, a local news agency reported.
