Srinagar teenage girl bags gold, JK team 5th in National Wushu Championship

With one gold, four silver and three bronze medals, Jammu Kashmir Junior Wushu Team has stayed fifth in the 21st Junior National Wushu Championship held at Calicut, Kerala. Kaifa Shah of Kashmir won the gold medal in 56 kg while Muhammad Ali, Musharraf, Ajmal, and Ansa Chishti won silver medals, and Muhammad Amir, Vasu and Pulkit Singh won bronze medals. Kaifa, 16-year-old, a resident of Srinagar's Rawalpura area started playing wushu since 2013. During this time, she also got injured and was bedridden for six months, but she did not lose heart. She went on to win her first national medal in 2016 and this time she won a gold medal, she said. Wushu coach Kuldeep Handoo, who was awarded the Dronacharya Award, praised the Jammu Kashmir team.

Several private Schools in JK harass students over non-payment of fees: Admin

Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said that some private schools in Jammu and Kashmir were harassing the students during the morning assembly over non-payment of the tuition and other fees. It said that harassing the students is highly objectionable and can be resorted to corporal punishments. Kashmiri Journalist Vikar Syed bereaved

Feroz Ahmad Shah, an uncle of journalist Vikar Syed, passed away on Tuesday evening in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir.   As per the family, Shah was unwell for the last few days and breathed his last on the evening of September 13, Tuesday, at his native village in Chandgam, Tahab area of the district. The Rasm-e-Chahrum of the deceased will be observed on September 16, Friday, at his residence, the family informed, FPK reported.

Indian Navy revives Naval training area at Manasbal Lake

After 33 years, the Indian Navy has revived naval training area at Manasbal Lake in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district for providing training to NCC cadets. Addressing a press conference, Group Commander NCC Group Srinagar, Brigadier K S Kalsi, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that around 100 NCC cadets including girls from various collages of Jammu and Kashmir are going to participate in the camp. Poonch accident devours 11 human lives

At least 11 passengers were killed when a mini-bus met with an accident in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Official sources said that the mini-bus (JK12 1419) carrying 25-30 passengers from Mandi to Saujiyan skidded off the road at Bareri Nallah and plunged into a deep gorge on Wednesday morning. They said that 11 bodies have been recovered so for and the death toll is likely to go up. “There are passengers with critical injuries who have been shifted to hospital for treatment.” The slain included 2 boys and 3 women. Nine feared dead in Poonch road accident

Nine people are feared dead in a road accident that took place in the Saujiyan area of Poonch district on Wednesday morning. Officials said that bus, on its way to Mandi from Saujiyan, rolled down into a deal gorge, resulting into several deaths. He said that in the incident at least nine persons including 2 boys and 3 women were killed in during the accident while several others were injured. The electric train for the 137-kilometer long Baramulla-Banihal railway corridor is all set to be inaugurated on October 2 with the work going on in full swing. Meer Irfan A 25-year-old youth has gone missing from his home in Chakoora area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Unknown vehicle crushes man to death in Srinagar

A 36-year-old man died after hit by an unknown speeding vehicle in Mandirbagh area of Srinagar city falling under the jurisdiction of police station Kralkhud. Reports said that the man identified as Hashim Ahmed Najar son of Muzaffar Ahmed, a resident of Mandir Bagh was hit by a speeding vehicle.
