Three fraudsters masquerading as ‘faith-healers’ deceived a woman and looted cash and gold from her house in Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The incident occurred at Bucho village while the family lodged a report at the police station. Family sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that three con men entered into the house of one Firoz Ahmed, masquerading as ‘faith-healers’. At the time only the ailing Firoz Ahmed and his wife were present in the house. The trio assured the woman that they will heal her ailing husband. On the instructions of the fraudsters, the woman brought the Holy Quran, gold and Rs 5,000. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday said a gang domiciled in Harayana is involved in the sub-inspector recruitment scam of Jammu Kashmir. Carpenter falls off from Masjid rooftop in Budgam, dies

A carpenter slipped to death during construction of a Masjid in Watrihal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday afternoon. Reports reaching Kashmir Dot Com said that one carpenter identified as Hafizullah Khan Son of Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Zagoo Khan Mohalla slipped while working at the rooftop of Jamia Masjid Watrihal resulting in injuries to him. The injured carpenter was immediately shifted to PHC Watrihal where he was referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar for further treatment. A police officer told KDC that the carpenter succumbed to his injuries at the SMHS hospital. The body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites, he said adding that Police has started inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC in this regard. (KDC)

Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan, who was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court, will continue to remain in a jail here as a case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate against him is still pending, officials of the prison department said. A court here on Monday issued the release order of Kappan, who was lodged in jail after his arrest in October 2020 while he was on his way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, where a Dalit woman had died after allegedly being raped. While ordering his release, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Anurodh Mishra had directed Kappan to furnish two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each and a personal bond of the same amount. A 25-year-old youth was on Tuesday morning found hanging in Gutlipora village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, sources said. The officials Global News Service that one Jaffar Ahmad Najar, son of Wali Mohammad Najar was found hanging by a rope at his home. “In a bid to rescue him, the family members and locals shifted the youth to SDH Kupwara, where he was however declared as brought dead on arrival.” Confirming the incident, a police official told the news agency that a case has been registered for due investigations. Shah Basit Three residential houses and two cow sheds were damaged during a massive fire incident in the Yachama Kangan area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday fire broke out from a residential house in the area which later spread to two more houses and two nearby cowsheds. He said that fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the fire, however, five structures suffered damage in the fire incident. The cause of fire was not known immediately, he said.

Meer Irfan Massive searches are underway to trace the non-local labourer who drowned in the Jhelum river in south Kashmir. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday one non-local labourer drowned while he was extracting sand from Jhelum river in the Patalbagh area of Pampore in south Kashmir's District Pulwama. As soon as the officials received information, a massive search operation was launched to find the body of the non-local labourer, however, no success has been achieved as of yet, they said. The search operation has entered its third day, they said.
