Crime Branch Kashmir’s Economic Offences Wing on Thursday launched searches in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts in connection with a recent case regarding arrest of ‘disengaged’ State level Technical expert (SLTC). In a statement, the Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) said that the case (FIR No: 67/2022) under IPC sections 420, 467, 468,471,120-B was registered after a written complaint received from Managing Director J&K Housing Board, wherein it was alleged that the accused Er. Danishwar Hameed A 24-year-old youth from Devsar area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district died of cardiac arrest in Saudi Arabia. The youth's faamily has appealed to the authorities to help them bring their son’s body back home. An official said that man identified as Mohammad Usman Shah of Gundipora Devsar died of heart attack in Saudi Arabia on the intervening night of Tuesday- Wednesday. They said that Shah, who was brother of six sisters, was working as a waiter in a company in Saudi Arabia. At least two persons died, while three were injured in a road accident in Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the accident took place near Degree College Pattan between a truck and a private vehicle. He said that in the incident five persons were injured and they were immediately shifted to Trauma hospital Pattan, where two among them were declared dead on arrival. Young labourer drowns in Jehlum while extracting sand

A labourer while extracting sand from the river Jehlum drowned during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday in Srinagar, an official from the River Police said. The incident occurred near Armpora Sonwar footbridge. The official told news agency Kashmir News Trust that some labourers were extracting the sand during which a labourer from Banihal Ramban lost balance in the boat and slipped into the river. “An operation that was started shortly after the incident to locate the labourer is underway. He is feared dead,” the official said and identified the victim as 23-year-old Jaafar Ahmed Wani son of Abdul Rashid Wani, a resident of Banihal area of Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNT)

House, 3 shops gutted in Srinagar fire

A house and three shops were gutted in a pre-dawn fire incident at Barbarshah area of Srinagar city on Thursday. Police have registered a case to ascertain the cause of the fire. Local sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that smoke was seen coming out from the top floor of a house belonging jointly to Jan Malik and Abdul Rashid. Fire-tenders rushed to spot and doused the flames. In the fire incident, the house and the three shops were damaged in the incident. 2 persons buried alive after coming under huge mound of Earth in Budgam

Two persons were killed after they came under a huge mound of earth in central Kashmir's Budgam on Wednesday evening, official sources said. They told GNS that the incident took place when two persons identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Parray (44) and Fayaz Ahmad Parray (45), both residents of Budgam, came under the huge mound during extraction of soil in Bandgam village. Soon after a rescue operation was initiated at the site, following which bodies of the duo were recovered and subsequently shifted to a nearby health facility for necessary medico-legal formalities, they said. Confirming the incident, a police official told GNS that cognizance has been taken for further investigations. (GNS)

North Kashmir: Civilian injured in ongoing Sopore encounter

A civilian was injured in an ongoing gunfight at Bomai area of North Kashmir's Sopore on Wednesday evening. A top police officer told GNS that a civilian namely Ali Mohd Ganai son of Abdul Ahad Ganai resident of Bomai recieved bullet wound in his leg during gunfight in Bomai. He has been shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment, his condition is stated to be stable, the officer added.
