A fierce Gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Bomai area of Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday. Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police, Army's 22RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Bomai. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and security forces. As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.(GNS)

JK reports 140 fresh covid-19 cases, no death

Jammu Kashmir reported 140 fresh covid-19 cases while there was no death due to the virus during the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday. They said that 25 cases were reported from Jammu division and 115 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 477784. Among the cases, 173671 are from Jammu division and 304113 from Kashmir Valley. Providing district wise details of the cases, they said, Jammu reported 21 cases, Udhampur 3, Rajouri 0, Doda 1, Kathua 0, Samba 0, Kishtwar 0, Poonch 0, Ramban 0, Reasi 0, Srinagar 36, Baramulla 18, Budgam 14, Pulwama 10, Kupwara 5, Anantnag 19, Bandipora 3, Ganderbal 7, Kulgam 3 and Shopian 0. The army on Wednesday said that it rescued an Israeli national from high altitude in Ladakh after receiving a distress call. Prisoners should be provided all basic facilities as they do not cease to be human beings and are entitled to all fundamental rights, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey of the High Court of Jammu nad Kashmir and Ladakh said on Tuesday. Kashmir University on Tuesday asked the heads of its departments and directors to seek prior permission of the authorities before inviting any foreign dignitaries, three days after it sought information about a US national who is said to have “delivered lectures” in the varsity in January-February this year, as per a report by Hindustan Times. The Meteorological (MeT) department on Wednesday forecast mainly clear to partly cloudy weather in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. The weather was mainly clear in the union territory on Tuesday. “Mainly clear to partly cloudy weather is likely in J&K during the next 24 hours”, an official of the MeT department said. Meanwhile, Jammu had 25.8 degrees, Katra 23.2, Batote 18.1, Banihal and Bhaderwah registered 15 and 17 degrees respectively. Srinagar recorded 16.6 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 10.4 and Gulmarg 9.5 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature this morning. Teenage girl killed, 3 others injured in road mishap in Bandipora

A 16-year-old girl was killed and three others injured in a road accident in Tulail area of Bandipora district on Tuesday, officials informed this morning. They told GNS that a Maruti car bearing registration number JK05G 2093 turned turtle at Neeru Tulail, resulting in injuries to four persons. The injured persons were shifted to SDH Gurez, where a girl namely Insha Parveen daughter of Mohammad Munnawar, a class 10 student at Higher Secondary School Rajouri Kadal Srinagar, succumbed shortly after, they said. The other three persons after receiving treatment at SDH Gurez were then referred to SKIMS Soura for preferential treatment, they said. The non-availability of funds has delayed the construction of much-awaited Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Kullan area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, leaving the people to lurch at large. The construction of the hospital was started in the year 2012, the locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), saying that the non-availability of funds have hampered the progress of the construction work. The PHC is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crores and the project is being executed by J&K Housing Board.
