Election commission postpones dates for revision of electoral rolls

The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule of special summary revision of electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir, setting November 25 as date for culmination of the exercise. Making changes in its earlier schedule announced on June 29, the poll-body extended the date for publication of electoral rolls by 25 days. As per the new schedule, the ECI has set November 25 as the date for final publication of electoral rolls whereas October 31 was fixed for the same as per earlier schedule. One militant killed in ongoing Budgam encounter

One militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter at Waterhail area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday. Official sources told GNS that one militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter, however identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained. ADGP Kashmir Kashmir Vijay Kumar earlier in a tweet said that Lateef Rather among three LeT militants trapped in encounter. As per ADGP, Lateef Rather was involved in killing of Rahul Bhat, Ambreen Bhat and several other civilians. Earlier Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Waterhail. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.(GNS)

Army man kills self with service rifle in Jammu Kashmir

An Indian Army man committed suicide on Wednesday in Jammu Kashmir. As per reports received by The Kashmiriyat Army man identified as Yogesh Kumar was on guard duty at Kullian camp in Miran Sahib area on the outskirts of Jammu city when he shot himself in the head. Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, died on the spot and later his body was taken to the the local hospital by police for medico-legal formalities.  

Man electrocuted to death in central Kashmir’s Budgam

A man was electrocuted to death in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The incident took place on Tuesday late evening in Sholipora village of the Budgam district. The deceased has been identified as Ali Muhammad Ganaie son of Muhammad Sultan Ganie of Sholipora village. Police in this regard took cognizance and registered a case under relevant sections of law. A couple of days ago, a youth was electrocuted to death in the same district while hoisting a Muharram banner atop his house. (KNT)

Government forces recover 30 kg IED in Tahab Pulwama

A major tragedy was averted on Wednesday when the security forces recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by militants in Pulwama district. Official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that IED planted by militants near Tahab crossing on Circular road in Pulwama was detected and recovered by the security forces. Encounter breaks out in Budgam area

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Waterhal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday morning, officials said. Patients with minor ailments avoid primary health centres, throng tertiary care hospitals

Despite multiple efforts from the authorities, tertiary hospitals in Srinagar continue to be overburdened with patients who can be treated at primary health centres. Doctors working at tertiary hospitals in Srinagar told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that there is a surge in patients as people directly reach tertiary hospitals instead of following a procedure of going to primary health centre or sub-district hospital. Locals of Neherpora area of Sopore in North Kashmir alleged that drainage constructed month before has collapsed due to usage of substandard material. 2 tipper drivers killed in stone quarry mishap in Baramulla

Two tipper drivers were crushed to death after coming under falling stones at a stone quarry in Drangbal area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district this afternoon, official sources said. They told GNS that the duo was near the stone quarry when several stones fell over them, resulting in their on-spot death. The deceased duo has been identified as Hilal Ahmad and Zaffar Ahmad Gojri.
