An earthquake of 3.4 magnitude hit Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday morning, with no damages or casualties reported owing to the quake. As per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake was 3.4 in magnitude and its epicentre was at a depth of 50 kilometres in the north Kashmir’s Bandipora area. The earthquake took place at 10:31:16 IST according to the NCS. However, there were no reports of any damage incurred as the fragile structures remains susceptible to the minor tremors. (KDC)

Newly-wed policeman dies after hit by oil tanker in Bandipora

A newly-wed policemen died after hit by an oil tanker in Shadipora Payeen area in north Kashmir's Bandipora district early this morning. Reports reaching GNS said the Farhad Ali, posted in District Police Lines Bandipora, son of Ghulam Hyder Wani of Shadipora Payeen was hit and grievously injured by an unknown oil tanker at around 4:00 AM at his native village. Farhad was subsequently shifted to SKIMS Bemina where he succumbed to injuries, they said. Farhad, married only four days ago, was heading towards a Masjid (mosque) to offer Fajr (morning) prayers, they said. A car rolled down into a gorge in Batote area of Ramban district on Sunday, leaving two person dead including a woman and 7 others injured, officials said. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the accident of ill-fated eco car (JK06A-5525) happened at Sanasar area of Ramban. Rayees Shah/ Shah Basit At least 50 sheep were killed after lightning struck amid heavy rains at the Haknar area of Gund in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that a local nomad namely Abdul Salam Chopan Son of Mohammed Ramzan, a resident of Haknar in Ganderbal was grazing sheep in his locality when heavy lightning hit the area during rains. They said that during the lightning over 50 sheep were killed, however, there was no report of any human loss in the incident. More details are awaited.
