Protestors block Kupwara-Srinagar highway, Demand whereabouts of missing Kandi resident

Protesters blocked Kupwara-Srinagar highway at Natnussa area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, demanding whereabouts of a resident of nearby village of Kandi who is ‘missing’ for four days. Reports reaching GNS said that scores of residents from Kandi Khaas assembled on the highway this afternoon, demanding the whereabouts of missing person Abdul Rasheed Magrey (34) son of Ghulam Rasool Magrey. The protestors including several members of the missing person said that the 34-year-old had gone to his in-laws house on May 13 and since then there are no whereabouts about him. They said that despite best efforts there’s no trace about him so far. The protesters demanded police to intensify the searches. (GNS)

Rains bring relief after heat wave in Kashmir valley

Light rains lashed Kashmir Valley even as night temperature recorded a rise at most places in JK except Gulmarg and Kokernag on Monday. A meteorological department official here told GNS Srinagar had 0.6mm of rain last night till 0830 hours and recorded a low of 15.4°C against 13.6°C on the previous night. The temperature, he said, was 4.0°C above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital. District Magistrate has ordered a magisterial enquiry regarding the killing of 20-year-old youth at Turkawangam area of Shopian district. Grief and mourning struck the family of  a 20-year-old shopkeeper who was shot dead in the Darazpora area of Shopian district in south Kashmir on Sunday morning. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that the body of the 20-year-old was handed over to his family for last rites in Shopian's Turkwangam area around 8 PM. A 40-year-old man, who was working with a private railway construction company and went missing three days ago, was found murdered in a forest area in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. Three suspected persons including a woman and her brother were detained for questioning in connection with the murder, the officials said. Continuing with its efforts to check overpricing of tourism services by service providers, a team of officers of the Tourism Department today conducted checks of various hotels in the city to check the services and their pricing being offered to visitors.
