20-year-old Civilian injured civilian succumbs, Protests erupt in Shopian area

Protests have erupted in Shopian's Darazpora area after a civilian was shot dead in the south Kashmir district on Sunday noon. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the locals staged protests demanding the dead body of the 20-year-old Shoaib Ahmed Ganie, who was shot dead in the area. Shoaib as per the Police was killed during crossfire in the Shopian area. The Jammu Kashmir Police in a tweet said, militats fired upon the joint patrol party of CRPF-182Bn/SOG of Pulwama near the bridge connecting Litter Pulwama with Turkwangam, Shopian. Civilian injured in ‘cross firing’ Amid ‘chance encounter in Shopian: Police

A civilian was in injured in crossing firing amid a ‘chance’ encounter between militants and a joint team of police and security forces in Turkwagam South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday. Clarifying it, a top police officer told GNS that there was an encounter which happened by chance in Turkwagam. A civilian received bullet wound in the exchange of fire and was subsequently shifted to nearby hospital where is condition is said to be stable. Special Investigating Team (SIT) constituted by the Jammu Kashmir administration to probe all aspects of the killing of Kashmiri Pandit employee Rahul Bhat, will be headed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Central Kashmir range, Sujit Kumar Singh, Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The Jammu Kashmir administration has shifted 82 more Hurriyat leaders and Kashmiri militants from different jails of Jammu Kashmir to several other jails in India including in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and New Delhi. More than 13% of women in Jammu & Kashmir have experienced violence after marriage, with husbands being the primary perpetrators in most cases, according to the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5). The report reveals that only 14% of women who faced violence sought help, while 84% neither reported nor confided in anyone. Among those who did seek assistance, most turned to their own families (54%), their husband’s family (44%), or friends (24%), while only 4% approached the police. The findings indicate that 10% of women aged 18-49 in J&K have experienced physical violence, and 3% have faced sexual violence. Among ever-married women, 12% reported experiencing physical or sexual violence, and 1% of pregnant women aged 18-19 reported physical abuse during pregnancy. S...
