Woman goes missing from Waderbala Handwara forests, Searches launched

A 42-year-old woman has gone missing from her native forest area in Waderbala of Zachaldara Handwara in frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district since last evening. Fazi Begum, wife of Abdul Majeed Mir, as per her family, had gone to bring back the cattle from the nearby forest area. “She hasn’t returned since”, they told GNS. Perturbed over her mysterious disappearance, the family informed police following which the latter alongside army’s 21 RR and locals launched a search operation in the forest area to trace the woman. The searches were however yet to fructify, when this report was being filed. Two security guards of Hakim Yasin sustain injuries after escort vehicle turns turtle

Two security guards escorting Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman Hakeem Muhammad Yasin were injured after the security vehicle they were travelling in, overturned in Khansahab area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Police sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a vehicle (JK02G-4769) went out of driver’s control and it rolled down in an orchard near Degree College Khansahab. Two security guards of Hakim Muhammad Yasin who was in another vehicle sustained injuries and were shifted to hospital where their condition is stated to be stable. (KNT)

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Monday expressed concern over the visit of Jammu  Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha participated in prayers at the ruins of the eighth-century Martand Sun temple at Mattan in Anantnag. The Indian Express quoted, that the ASI is seeing his visit as an incident of violation of its rules but has not lodged a formal complaint. It also said that no prior permission was sought from ASI to conduct a religious ceremony at the complex, and asked the administration to exercise caution so that such a violation is not repeated. Srinagar road accident: Man dies, another injured

A man died while another sustained critical injury after a passenger vehicle hit them in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar city, official sources said. They said that a passenger vehicle hit two persons at Pinchi Mandi Batamaloo. They were shifted to SMHS Hospital where one among them identified as 50-year old Nawaz Ahmed, a resident of Rawalpora Srinagar succumbed to his injuries. The condition of another victim is stated to be critical. Hospital sources identified him as Bilal Ahmed Parray (45) son of Noor Muhammad, a resident of Chatabal Srinagar. A medico at SMHS Hospital confirmed to news agency KNT that one among the injured died while another is undergoing treatment. Police in this regard have registered a case. (KNT)

Kashmiri Photojournalist Sanna Irshad Mattoo wins Pulitzer prize

Kashmir photojournalist, Sanna Irshad Mattoo has won a Pulitzer Prize along with three others from the Reuters team. The prizes were announced by Columbia University in the USA minutes ago. Sanna, a resident of Srinagar will be sharing the award with deceased Reuters photojournalist Danish Sidiqi and Adnan Abidi, Amit Dev. The four have won the prize in feature photography. Pertinently in 2021, Sanna who works with Reuters had become Magnum Foundation’s ‘Photography and Social Justice Fellows. Her works were published in various international and national media publications.

A civilian who was injured during initial stage of encounter at Pandoshan area of Shopian has succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a civilian namely Shahid Gani Dar son of Abdul Gani Dar resident of Pandoshan Shopian has succumbed to his injuries at 92 base hospital Srinagar. He said on Monday evening that two civilians were injured during the initial exchange of fire. He added that both were airlifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar however, Shahid succumbed while as condition of another civilian Shoaib Ah Mantoo and solider Sanjeev Das is said to be stable. Meer Irfan An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at Pandoshan area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. A Police official said that on Monday RR of the Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the area laid a cordon and search operation in the Pandoshan area. During the cordon, the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per the latest reports, two to three militants are trapped at the site of the enounter.
