With the onset of Ramadhan, non-local beggars have inundated Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley, where they have been observed requesting alms in public places, including markets and traffic signals. This is happening at a time when the government has already made begging illegal in public areas and in Masjids. Under Section 4 of the Jammu Kashmir Prevention of Beggary Act, 1960, Section 61 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1989, any person found soliciting alms in a public place, or in or around a mosque, temple, or another place of public worship, whether or not under any pretence, and entering on any private premises for the purpose of soliciting alms shall be immediately arrested. Three persons were killed and six others were injured when a passenger cab they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Reasi district on Thursday. Official sources told GNS that the vehicle, Tata Sumo (JK20-7607), on the way to Tukson to Mahore along Bagga-Gulabgarh road met with the accident near Angralla, leading to the death of three persons and injuries to six others. One militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter in Pariswani area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday, officials said. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the encounter broke out shortly after joint security forces including the Army, CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants there. “One unidentified militant has been killed, whose identification is being ascertained,” they said, adding that the operation is on in the area.
