Jammu and Kashmir reported 706 fresh covid-19 cases while four persons succumbed to the virus in last 24 hours, officials said on Monday. 345 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu division and 361 from Kashmir, taking the overall tally to 345358. There were four deaths, three from Jammu division and one from Kashmir Valley, due to the virus during the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4544 persons—2209 in Jammu and 2335 in Kashmir—have died due to the virus, they said. The Government medical college in Srinagar has canceled the ongoing winter vacation for the staff of the hospital due to a sudden spike in the Covid cases in Jammu Kashmir. As per an official order accessed by The Kashmiriyat issued under the number 07 -GS of 2022 dated, 10-01-2022 the GMC Srinagar has cancelled the winter vacation for all the faculty members and asked them to resume duties tomorrow. "In view of sudden upsurge of COVID-19/OMICRON Cases, the Winter Vacation-2022 of Faculty Members stands cancelled and all the Faculty members of this Institution on vacation shall resume their duties on 11th January 2022 (Tuesday), without fail."

A lineman of Power Development Department (PDD) was on Monday injured due after he received an electric shock at Adhal Vailoo village of South Kashmir's Anantnag district, an official said. An official said that a PDD lineman identified as Abdul Hamid Mir of Badasgam while repairing an electric wire of transformer received an electric shock and thus simultaneously sustained burn injuries. Danishwar Hameed  Two militants were killed in the encounter that raged late on Sunday between government forces and militants in the Hassanpora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. An official said that two local militants have been killed during the gunfight that erupted after militants fired upon forces during a cordon and search operation.
