Handing phone to your babies could delay their speech, problem-solving skills: DAK

Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Thursday said handing phone to your babies could lead to delay in their development. “The more time babies spend on smartphones, the more likely they are to have developmental delay,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan. Dr Hassan said parents hand over phones to children to calm them. Also, it allows parents to get other tasks done like cooking, cleaning and washing. “Letting your baby play with a phone may seem like a simple way to keep them occupied, but it could affect their development,” he said. “According to a new study published on August 21 in the Journal of the American Medical Association Paediatrics, babies who spent more time on phones at age one year were more likely to have delays in speech and problem-solving skills,” said ...

Man injured in bear attack in South Kashmir

A man was injured after he was attacked by a wild bear in Verinag Area of South Kashmir Anantnag district on Thursday afternoon. Reports reaching news agency—Kashmir Scroll that one person Ghulam Rasool Rather Son of Habibullah Rather resident of Zamalgam was attacked by a wild bear Verinag. SIA arrests eight persons involved in militancy in past, 369 absconders identified

State Investigation Agency with the help of the Criminal Investigation Department of Jammu and Kashmir Police in its drive to track down those allegedly involved in militancy-related incidents in the 1990s arrested 8 persons from Jammu region. SIA has said that in 327 cases registered in the past under TADA, it has so far verified and identified 369 absconders out of 734 absconders. As per the SIA 215 absconders from Jammu and 154 from Kashmir have been identified while the cases related to 317 absconders from Jammu and 417 from Jammu are in progress. The investigation agency has said that out of 369 verified absconders, 127 remained untraced, 80 have died, 45 are residing across the border and other countries abroad and 4 have been languishing in jail. Mid-aged woman dies in Srinagar road accident

A middle-aged woman died on the spot after being hit by a private car near Naqashbandh Sahab shrine in Khawaja Bazar area of Srinagar downtown on Wednesday. Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a private Ignis car (JK01AQ-5374) hit a female pedestrian who died on the spot. The driver Altaf Ahmed Shiekh reportedly surrendered before the police after which the vehicle was seized by the police. The deceased lady was shifted by police to SMHS Hospital for postmortem. Hospital sources identified the deceased female as Adeeba Shabir wife of Shabir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Anzimar area of Khanyar Srinagar. Eyewitnesses said that another lady was also injured in the mishap and taken to hospital, however, that was not officially confirmed. [KNT]

Mild earthquake tremors were felt across the Kashmir valley on Monday afternoon. As per initial reports, the earthquake was felt across various parts of the Valley with a magnitude of 5.0 magnitude and its epicenter in Diamir Pakistan. ‘PTI’ Flags Spotted, Recovered in Poonch, Rajouri

Flags of ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’, led by incarcerated former Pakistan Premier Imran Khan, were spotted and recovered in twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, officials said on Monday. They told GNS that a flag of ‘PTI’ tied with balloons was spotted at Middle School Sarula in Bhimber Gali Sector. “A police team on receipt of information visited and took the paraphernalia into its possession”, they said. Similarly, they said, multicolored Pakistan-made balloons alongwith Pakistan National flag and PTI flag were recovered on intervening Sunday and Monday night in Rajpur Kamila in Lam area of Rajouri district. “On information by the locals, a police team visited the spot and took the stuff into its possession”, they said. Tengpora Noorbagh residents suffer in absence of drinking water supply

Residents of Tengpora Noorbagh in Srinagar on Saturday said they are facing acute drinking water shortage for more than two months. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), they said the authorities have not responded to their pleas so far. "We have no potable water and the supply is very low. Sometimes there is no water in the day and supply returns at around 1:00 to 1:50 am. We are being forced to wake up at night to collect the water," said a local Ayoub Lone.
