The Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday said that security forces efforts are on to locate the missing soldier of Kulgam. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, the DGP as per news agency Kashmir Scroll said that a case has already been registered against the Kulgam missing soldier and efforts of the police and security agencies are on to locate him. The top officer said we are hopeful to locate the missing soldier at the earliest. Pertinently, An army soldier, Javed Ahmad, a resident of Asthal Kulgam on leave, went missing on Saturday evening.(KS)

Jammu Kashmir Police has instructed all vehicle owners to remove the tinted films from the car glasses failing which action will be initiated against the violators. “All vehicle owners are instructed to immediately remove tinted films from all glasses, failing which vehicle will be seized & legal action will follow. No film of any transparency is allowed at all as per Hon’ble Supreme Court judgment in Writ Petition (Civil) no 265 of 2011," Srinagar Police tweeted.

The Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) is now undergoing specialized training to be deployed in Kashmir. As per a news report by Tribune, plans are underway to deploy these highly skilled commandos known for their expertise in jungle warfare against Naxals, for operations in Kashmir. The 205 CoBRA battalion, currently stationed in Bihar where Naxal activities have been diminishing, is being prepared for anti-militancy operations in the Kashmir region. They will soon be shifted to the conflict-prone area to bolster security forces' capabilities, said the report.

Three new glacial lakes may be formed in Ladakh, a study conducted by geologists has revealed. The study states that the depth of lakes may range from 34 to 84 metres and will be formed due to the accelerated melting of the Himalayan Parkachik Glacier The study attributed the accelerated glacial retreat to ongoing climate warming, which also causes surface morphological or geological changes to glaciers. The study was conducted by the scientists of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, headed by Dr Manish Mehta. Parkachik Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Suru River valley, which is a part of the Southern Zanskar Ranges, western Himalaya, in the union territory of Ladakh. Sopore: Man arrested for ‘provoking’ woman to commit suicide

Police in north Kashmir's Sopore on Saturday claimed to have arrested a man on the charge of provoking his wife to take an extreme step. A senior police officer told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that recently a suicide case of a lady was reported in the model town of Sopore, for which a case was registered, and accordingly, an investigation was set into motion. The officer said that during the course of the investigation, it was learned that the husband of the deceased lady had provoked her to commit suicide. The officer further added that the husband of the deceased lady has been arrested under section 306 IPC and is currently behind bars. (KS)

A minor girl drowned in the nallah on Friday evening in the Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a 5-year-old girl (name withheld) drowned to death while slipping into Nallah Kurd at Heb Dangerpora. The officer, however, said that the body of the girl was fished out of the nallah by the locals and police. Meanwhile, local reports reaching Kashmir Scroll said that emotional scenes were seen in the whole village soon after this shocking news was spread. A middle-aged woman was injured after being attacked by a black bear in Ajas area in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Saturday afternoon. Reports reaching GNS said that a woman identified as Aisha Begum, 50, wife of Bashir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kawpora Ajas, was injured after attacked by a black bear, while she was working in a kitchen-garden at Nagaiwaan Ajas. The woman suffered injuries in her left eye and was evacuated from the site to a nearby health facility from where she has been referred to a Srinagar hospital for preferential treatment. When contacted, a Wildlife Department official told GNS that soon after receiving intimation, a team was rushed to the spot to keep a track on the movements of bear to capture it at an earliest.
