Two residential houses damaged in Baghat blaze

Two residential houses were damaged in a fire incident in the Rawalpora Baghat Area of Central Kashmir Srinagar district. Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Scroll that two single-story residential houses belonging to Parvaiz Ahmad Dar and Abdul Rashid Dar were damaged in a fire incident in Rawatpora Baghat during the intervening night. They said firefighters along with the help of police and locals doused the flames on time, to avoid any further damage, adding that the cause of the fire was not known immediately. Admin disallows Muharram 8 Procession at Dal gate Srinagar

Vistadome coach to be operational in Kashmir soon, Say officials

Kashmir's first Independence Day coach will start its operations from Budgam to Baramulla stations and all arrangements have been finalized, officials on Monday said. The coach was manufactured at an estimated cost of about Rs 4 crore by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and will be introduced before Independence Day. Kashmir got its first train service in 2013 and it was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A top official at Northern Railways confirmed this development and stated that all preparations have been made for the imminent introduction of Vistadome service in the Kashmir valley. The 40-seat couch has a built-in GPS-based information system, LED lights, extra-large glass windows, and rotatable chairs, the official claimed.

Rohingyas protest against detention of community members in Jammu jail

Lodged at a “holding centre” here for the past over two years, over 200 Rohingyas from Myanmar on Tuesday held a protest and clashed with guards inside Hiranagar sub-jail demanding their release, official sources said. However, a senior police officer dismissed the protest as “normal”, saying they are holding protests for the past one month for their release from the centre. A total of 271 Rohingyas, including 74 women and 70 children, are lodged at the sub-jail that was notified as a “holding centre” on March 5, 2021, for lodging illegal immigrants.
