Katra receives all-time highest rainfall in 24 hours; schools shut in Doda

Parts of Jammu and Kashmir received heavy rainfall with Katra recording an “extremely” heavy downpours of 315.4mm in 24 hours which is the all-time heaviest for the area, officials said on Wednesday. A meteorological department official here told GNS that Katra received all time rain of 315.4mm in 24 hours till 0830 hours this morning; it surpassed the 292.4mm record recorded on 31st July 2019. Gunfight erupts in Surankote Poonch

A gunfight between militants and joint team of army and police erupted in Surankote area of Poonch on Monday, officials said. Police destroys 6,727 KGs of drugs in Jammu

Police on Monday destroyed 6,727 kilograms of drugs seized during various operations in Jammu, officials said. It was done under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign in Jammu led by Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh. ”As a part of a nationwide campaign, 6,727 kg of drugs were destroyed in Jammu”, a senior official said. Officers of the Anti-narcotics Task Force, Narcotics Control Bureau and police officers were present on the spot.

Army on Monday said it eliminated two infiltrators while foiling an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector area. A defence spokesperson in Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the army launched “Operation Bahadur” in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday after an attempt was made by infiltrators on the LoC in the Poonch sector area. A 53-year-old woman Yatri was killed while two members of Mountain Rescue Team of J&K Police were grievously injured in a shooting stone incident between Sangam Top and Lower Cave in south Kashmir late last evening, officials said on Sunday. They told GNS that while the woman Urmilaben daughter of Laxmi Naryan was seriously injured after being hit by the shooting stone, two members of Mountain Rescue Team of J&K Police, Mohammed Salem and Mohammed Yaseen, suffered grievous wounds while they were trying to rescue her.
