A person died while another was injured after a car and a load carrier collided with each other in the Arampora area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) a car and a load carrier collided head-on, resulting in injuries to two persons. He said that soon after the incident, they were rushed to SDH Kupwara, where one of the injured was pronounced dead on arrival. A house was damaged due to a landslide in the Chandgam Tahab area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that incessant rains triggered a landslide in the Chandgam area, resulting in damage to a residential house. He said there was no report of any injury in the incident. Tehsildar Pulwama Mohammad Iqbal confirmed to KNO that a residential house suffered damage in Chandgam. A body was on Wednesday found floating over waters in the Jhelum River near Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, officials said. They told GNS that the body was sighted by non-local labourers, who intimated the authorities about it. Soon after intimation, SDRF reached the spot and subsequently started an operation to retrieve the body, they said. The operation was going on when this report is being filed. (GNS)

A court in Srinagar has convicted a man for raping a 14-year-old girl in the Soura area of Srinagar in 2012 and termed it a “crime against society”. According to the prosecution, police received a complaint from the father of the victim that he took his daughter for a check-up after she complained of abdominal pain, and upon tests by the doctors, she was declared to be having child in her womb. The complainant said that upon enquiry by him and his wife, the minor disclosed that the person who resides in their neighborhood as tenant, namely Irshad Ahmad Malik of Kokernag, raped her several times. The Jammu Kashmir government has made life-saving jackets mandatory for Shikara boats in Dal and Nigeen lakes besides other water bodies across the JK. Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a person accused in sexual Harassment against a girl in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. In a handout to GNS, the police said that, in response to a distressing incident reported on 29th May 2023, involving an act of sexual harassment against a young girl (identity withheld), the police today arrested the accused.
