Court convicts man from Kokernag for rape of 14-year-old girl

A court in Srinagar has convicted a man for raping a 14-year-old girl in the Soura area of Srinagar in 2012 and termed it a “crime against society”. According to the prosecution, police received a complaint from the father of the victim that he took his daughter for a check-up after she complained of abdominal pain, and upon tests by the doctors, she was declared to be having child in her womb. The complainant said that upon enquiry by him and his wife, the minor disclosed that the person who resides in their neighborhood as tenant, namely Irshad Ahmad Malik of Kokernag, raped her several times. The Jammu Kashmir government has made life-saving jackets mandatory for Shikara boats in Dal and Nigeen lakes besides other water bodies across the JK. Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a person accused in sexual Harassment against a girl in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Weatherman on Tuesday forecast light to moderate rain, thunder, and lightning in Jammu and Kashmir till June 2 and advised farmers to suspend all operations during that time. One person dies in Anantnag road accident

Sheikh Nadeem A bike rider died in a road accident in the Achabal area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district after a speedy vehicle hit the bike. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday afternoon, a speedy vehicle hit a two-wheeler in the Achabal area, causing on-the-spot death to the rider. The body of the deceased was shifted to the sun district hospital in Achabal for medico-legal formalities. The local contractors here have urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address their grievances, alleging that their dues are not being released on time, causing huge inconvenience to them as well as the labour class.
