Jammu Kashmir Police in Kulgam on Wednesday carried out rescue operation and rescued three nomadic families along with their livestock who were stuck in between the river Vaishow near Chambgund. “At about 2140 hours, Police received information that some nomads along with their livestock were stuck in between the river Veshaw near Chambgund due to abrupt increase in water level follow amid continuous rainfall during the intervening night of 18/19 April 2023,” a police spokesman said in a statement Acting swiftly, Police party from Police Station Devsar along with SDRF teams under the supervision of SP Kulgam launched a rescue operation in the said area. The intermittent rainfall for the past few days has caused damage to the vital bridge in Lagate area of Handwara, prompting authorities to restrict the public movement as a precautionary measure. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Daand Kadal - a bridge over nallah Mawer that connects more than 20 villages has been closed for the public movement as the bridge has developed a partial damage due to intermittent rainfall and increase in the water level of the nallah. Quashing the detention order passed by District Magistrate Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the release of journalist Fahad Shah ‘if he is not required in any other case’. “Right to life and liberty is one of the most cherished rights enjoyed by citizen and the State is duty bound to protect this precious right in the light of the cherished constitutional freedom,” the court said as per an order accessed by Free Press Kashmir. Weather department here on Tuesday said that intermittent rain and thunderstorms was very likely to continue in Jammu and Kashmir till April 21. “During this wet spell of (18-19th) thunderstorms with strong gusty wind reaching (20-30KMPH) and hailstorm is also possible at some places of Jammu and Kashmir,” a meteorological department official said. Sheikh Nadeem A young man died after the scooter he was traveling on met with an accident in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday morning, a young man fell down from his two-wheeler near the Donipawa area, resulting in critical injuries to the youth.
