The Muttahida Ulama Ahle Sunnat has appealed to the government to release renowned cleric Maulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and others from detention. In a statement to news agency Kashmir News Trust Muttahida Ulama Ahle Sunnat Jammu Kashmir has said that those clerics who have been languishing in jails should be released as they always stood for the prosperity, peace and order in Jammu Kashmir. The statement said that the religious and social activities of these incarcerated clerics are in accordance with the legal framework. A youth on Wednesday afternoon allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Ogmuna locality of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Official sources told a local news wire Kashmir News Apex-(KNA) that a youth (name withheld) who is a resident of Ogmuna Tangmarg allegedly hanged himself inside his room in this afternoon He said that his family members immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Hours after a “hybrid” militant assisting police was killed in an encounter in Anantnag district, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti alleged the “same story is repeated” in Jammu and Kashmir and there is “no accountability whatsoever”. Two persons including a pedestrian and biker were killed in a road accident near Aali Masjid in Srinagar on Saturday late evening. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) a biker identified as Showkat Ahmad Khan of Tengpora lost control and hit a pedestrian identified as Ghulam Nabi of Zoonimar, resulting in grevious injuries to both. Jammu Kashmir police on Saturday carried out raids at several locations across the Valley including at residences of several journalists in a case related to online threats to Kashmir-based journalists.
