MMU condemns arrests of religious scholars under PSA, Demands release

On Saturday, the Mutahhida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), an amalgam of various religious organizations of Kashmir, condemned the fresh arrests of religious scholars across Kashmir under PSA. "Not only are these actions by the authorities unjustified but are causing severe anger among the people as well," the MMU said. MMU also demanded release of all the arrested clerics and preachers. The Majlis-e-Ulema reaffirmed that "the main work of scholars and preachers is to propagate the religion of Islam, spread the message of humanity and love, and make positive efforts for the supremacy of truth & righteousness and the reformation of society." Father of five daughters killed in Kulgam road accident

Suhail Dar/ Danishwar Hameed A 40-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was hit by an unknown vehicle in Qaimoh area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a vehicle hit one pedestrian identified as Ajaz Ahmad Malla (50) of Turak Tachloo on Srinagar-Jammu national highway near his native village. He said that he died on the spot and the body was later brought to Qaimoh hospital. Family member of Ajaz said that he is survived by five daughters, two sons and was the sole bread owner of the family. We appeal the Kulgam police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Police have taken cognizance of the incident and started the investigation into the incident.

Danishwar Hameed The Additional Development Commissioner (ADC) Kulgam, Showkat Ahmad Rather today chaired a meeting at Mini-Secretariat here to review the arrangements for smooth transportation of fruit crops to outside Valley. During the meeting, the traffic plan was discussed to facilitate smooth transportation and to avoid traffic jams. The ADC stressed to enforce traffic diversion plans especially during the peak fruit season. The residents of Badugam village of Tulail in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Thursday held a protest against a JK Bank Manager who allegedly took loan from the bank on "customer's names fraudulently." The protesters, while speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a few years ago the bank manager of J&K Bank Badugam unit had taken the loans from the bank in their names while they were not informed about it. "Loans have been allegedly taken from the bank in the names of about forty people, while these people are not even aware of it," they said. Meer Irfan A youth has gone missing from his home in Chaigund area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Marifat ahmad Mugloo , 23,  son of Mohd Maqbool Mugloo a resident of Chaigund in Shopian has been missing from his home since 11 September, his family members told The Kashmiriyat. "Marifat left his home on Sunday for small work but did not return. We have been trying to call him since, but to no avail,” he said Ubaid's family has appealed general public to help them trace their son. FIR has been filed in the respective police station. Marifat is survived by four brothers, He was pursuing Graduation at Degree College in Pulwama, the family members said.

Grief hit the Shopian district Monday morning after the passing away of a renowned Islamic preacher at his ancestral home in the south Kashmir district. Mohammed Shaban Bhat, noted Islamic scholar from south Kashmir’s Shopian district, as per local breathed his last on Monday morning. As soon as the news of his death spread in the nearby areas, people thronged his house in the south Kashmir town in huge numbers. Hundreds of people converged to his Nimaz-e- Jinaza at central Hanfia Eidgah court road Shopian at 10 am on Monday morning. The deceased is known for his services to the educational sector in the south Kashmir district.

An advocate was found hanging from a tree in Arath area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday morning. Reports reaching Kashmir Dot Com said that a man was found hanging from a tree following which police was informed by the locals. A police officer confirmed the incident and said the deceased has been identified as Advocate Tariq Ahmad, son of Abdul Ganie Mir, a resident of Wadwan area of the district. “Body will be handed over to the family for last rites after medico-legal formalities”, he said. Wild bear spotted roaming with cub in Rajbagh, Police issues advisory

Panic gripped the Rajbagh area of Srinagar after the residents spotted a wild bear and a cub roaming openly in the Srinagar locality. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday evening, a wild bear was spotted by the locals roaming along with a cub on a street in the area. Immediately after, the locals contacted the Wildlife Department, who deputed a team to rescue the wild bear from the area, however, no success has been achieved as of yet. The Jammu Kashmir Police has issued an advisory asking people from Rajbagh and nearby areas to remain indoors till the bear is caught. "If anyone notices/sees the bear, pls inform at SHO Rajbagh's number 7006572050," Police said.
