Off-duty cop killed, another injured in Bijbehera road accident

A Jammu and Kashmir police personnel was killed and another injured in a road accident at Bijbehera area of south Kashmir's Anantnag on Thursday morning, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two off-duty cops on way to home were injured after a vehicle hit their motorcycle at Zirpora area of Bijbehera. He said that the duo was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, where one of them succumbed to his injuries. He identified the deceased as Tariq Ahmad Ahanger from Verinag while the injured has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Ahanger from Nowpora Dooru. The official said that both were posted in IR 23 Battalion and were on way to home—(KNO)

Jammu Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said that the caravan of militancy will not end in Kashmir unless the central government wins hearts of the people of Kashmir and engages in dialogue with the neighbouring country. Talking to reporters at Srinagar, he said that militancy in Kashmir will not end unless the central government tries to win hearts of the people and engages in dialogue with the neighbouring country. "I tell them it will never end unless you win the hearts of the people," he said, while referring to the government. National Investigation Agency is carrying out raids at multiple places in South Kashmir in connection with Sunjwan Jammu encounter in which two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants and a CISF trooper were killed in April this year. Official Sources told GNS NIA sleuths with the assistance of police and paramilitary CRPF personnel is carrying out the raids in Anantnag district and Awantipora area of Pulwama district. However they did not share further details as regards arrests or seizures, if any, during the raids so far. (GNS)

Miscreants loot cash from Gurdwara in Tral

Miscreants have looted unaccounted cash from a donation box at a Gurduwara in Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The incident occurred at Khasipora Tral during the intervening night of 11 and 12 July at Gurudwara Singh Sabha. DDC member Avtar Singh Trali told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the Gurudwara is under construction and devotees had donated a lot of money that had been kept in the safe and strong donation box, which was looted by the burglars. He expressed concern and hoped that police will nab the culprits. Avtar Singh Trali appealed to the government to deploy security guards at minority religious places. Pertinently, burglars in Kashmir Valley in the past have targeted the religious shrines mostly belonging to the majority community. (KNT)

Bhat Imtiyaz Two people sustained serious injuries after a bike bearing registration number JK03C 9566 collided with a Scooty near College Dooru in the Anantnag district on Monday evening. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that the injured have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Malik son of Mohammed Akbar Malik, a resident of Bemdoora Kokernag and Basharat Ahmad Darzi age Son of Ghulam Nabi Darzi resident of Mir Maidan Dooru. Both injured persons were shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment, they said. Police have registered a case in this regard. Details awaited.

A tipper driver was retrieved dead with his helper still untraced after flash floods swept them away along their vehicle in Rajouri in Darhalli Nallah in Rajouri district on intervening Thursday and Friday night, officials said. They told GNS that two persons Sajad Ahmed son of Mohd Aslam and Abrar Ahmed son of Jamal Din, both residents of Soker Kotranka were washed away in Dharhali Nala while loading sand in their tipper. “It happened that during the loading, the water level suddenly increased in nallah, which led to the incident”, they said. “Soon after, a joint rescue operation by police, SDRF and army was initiated to trace the missing persons and so far the body of driver was retrieved from the nallah”, they said adding the helper was still untraced with the joint team intensify...

Kulgam,  (KNO): A 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the girl (name withheld) from Yaripora hanged herself at her home today and she died on the spot. Elderly man commits suicide in Hajin village

Hajin, (KNO): An elderly man committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in the Shahgund area of Hajin in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Tuesday, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the man (name withheld), aged around 70, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his home. He said that soon after the incident he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where from he was shifted to Srinagar, where he died during treatment. The official said that after conducting a postmortem of the body it was handed over to his relatives for last rites.
