Two Lashkar-i-Toiba militants were killed on Wednesday in an encounter at Nowpora Mir Bazaar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. A top police officer told GNS that two militants who belong to LeT oufit have been killed with security forces. Identity and other details will be shared latter, the officer added. Earlier Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Mir Bazaar. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.(GNS)

One militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter in Nowpora Mir Bazaar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday. Official sources told GNS, that one militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter, however identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained. Earlier Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Mir Bazaar. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.(GNS)

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Nawapora, Mir Bazar area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday a joint group of RR,  CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in Nowpora area of Kulgam, launched a cordon and search operation. As per locals, intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on at the site of the encounter. Details emerging.

Sahil Gulzar A woman died due to electrocution at her home in Balpora village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday. The woman received an electric shock after she came in contact with a live electric wire, sources told The Kashmiriyat. A health official said that she was immediately shifted to the sub-district hospital (SDH) Shopian where doctors declared her brought dead. The deceased woman has been identified as Tanseema Jan wife of Fayaz Ahmad Thoker. Meanwhile, a police official confirming the incident to The Kashmiriyat said that a case has been registered in this regard.

The residents of Wurbagh village in South Kashmir's Pulwama district are yearning for a footbridge for the last six years, which could connect at least seven villages. The work on the footbridge was started after the then People's Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Muhammad Khalil Bandh visited the area in 2016, but the same was never completed. A couple of days back, the dilapidated wooden footbridge collapsed due to the flood waters disconnecting at least half-a-dozen neighboring villages. Militants reportedly managed to give slip to security forces after initial exchange of fire which took place on Saturday evening in Shirmal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. A top police officer told GNS that after initial exchange of fire between militants and security forces, there was no further contact with the militants. The search operation in the area is still underway, so far no fresh contact has been established. It seems militants might have escaped taking advantage of darkness after initial exchange of fire, the officer added.
