Kokernag encounter: Hizb militant killed, ops on

SOUTH KASHMIR
A Hizb militant has killed in a gunfight that broke out between militants and government forces at Hangalgund village Kokernag area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Thursday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. He said during exchange of fire, a militant affiliated with Hizb has been killed while as operation is going on in the area—(KNO)

An Improvised explosive device was found by police in Litter area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Thrusday, officials said. They said the the IED was detected on the road side following which a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the area. When this report was filed Police and BDS have already reached to the spot to assess it. Meanwhile a top police officer also confirmed to GNS about the recovery of an IED.(GNS)

No fuel shortage anywhere in Kashmir: Div com

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole on Thursday said that there was no shortage of fuel in Kashmir and that people shouldn’t need heed to ‘baseless’ rumours. “There is no need to panic as people can go to retail outlets of Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to buy fuel,” he said, as per news agency KNS. Pole also said that Hindustan Oil Corporation Limited would also have sufficient stock of petrol and diesel by today evening. While claiming that there wouldn't be any problem regarding the availability of fuel, he advised people to purchase fuel as per their need.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at four places in Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday in connection with a case related to cross-LoC trade and militancy funding cases, an official said. The searches were conducted at three locations in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and one in Handwara in Kupwara district, a spokesperson of the NIA said. The spokesperson said the case pertains to the generation of additional profits through trade across the Line of Control (LoC) between Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan and using the proceeds for fomenting militant activities in the region. The case was registered on December 16, 2016. The cross-LoC trade started in 2008 via two trade facilitation centers in Baramulla and Poonch. The trade has been suspended since April 2019. ...

The Income Tax department on Wednesday raided the residence of a luxury hotel owner in Nishat area of summer capital Srinagar. Sources said that sleuths of the income tax department raided the residence of Feroz Ahmad Sheikh and Khalid Sheikh, both sons of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, who are said to be the owners of Hotel Hilton Pahalgam. The residence at Deewan colony Nishat is being searched by the tax officials, sources said adding there is no NIA raid at their residence as reported by some media outlets. (KDC)

On the world blood donor's Day, A blood donation camp was organised in Anantnag town of south Kashmir in the memory of slain Mirwaiz of south Kashmir, Dr. Qazi Nisar. In a press release, Idara Tehiqaqat e Islami said, the blood donation camp was organized by Khair e Aam trust, it's charitable wing, under the banner of Shaheed e Ummat blood bank for the needy patients. Organized by Khair e Aam Trust managed Shaheed e Ummat Blood Bank, nearly fifty volunteers donated blood for the needy patients. The blood will then be donated to various hospitals in south Kashmir where it is donated to the patients in need. An unattended bag has been found at Rawalpora on Sunday morning, prompting authorities to suspend traffic on the thoroughfare. Official sources told GNS that an unattended bag was found at Rawalpora area of the central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. Soon police and CRPF rushed to the spot and subsequently called Bomb Disposal Squad. Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two persons along with arms and ammunition in Dooru area of Southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district. In a statement issued to GNS, the police said that police in Anantnag have arrested two persons identified as Rahil Ahmed Malik son of Gulzar Ahmed Malik and Shabir Ahmed Rather son of Ghulam Hassan Rather, both residents of Mehmodabad at a checkpoint established at Khudahmam Dooru. The statement further stated that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 1 Pistol, 1 Magazine and 11 Pistol rounds have been recovered from their possession. In this connection, a case vide FIR No. 51/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Dooru and further investigation initiated, reads the statement.(GNS)

Kishtwar seminary student drowns in South Kashmir

A student from a seminary drowned while enjoying the watera of Bringe nallah in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The victim as per reports was a student of Darul Aloom Sautul Awliya. Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that students from seminary had gone for a picnic where the 21-year-old student drowned to death at Bringi Nallah near Nowgam Anantnag. The victim has been identified as Tawseef Ahmed Laway son of Abdul Majeed, a resident of Doda Kishtwar. The body of the deceased was not retrieved till the filing of this story. (KNT)
