17 Candidates to Contest Elections for Anantnag Lok Sabha Seat

April 05 The scrutiny of nomination papers of the contesting candidates for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat was conducted today by the Returning Officer Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency on Friday. In a Press release issued to The Kashmiriyat by District Information Officer,  Khalid Jahangir under the supervision of General, Police and Expenditure Observers in presence of the Chief Agents/representatives of candidates conducted the scrutiny. During the scrutiny, 17 nominations were accepted,  two nominations filed by Mr. Bashir Ahmad Malik, Independent Candidate, Mr. Safeer Ahmad Malik of Rashtriya Jan Karanti Party were rejected, the press release said. Locals from Sangdan blocked the railway line from Srinagar to Banihal which runs through their area to demand a railway station in the area. March 31 Following specific inputs about Militant movement, The Government Forces on Sunday afternoon launched Cordon and Search operation (CASO) in Panzoo area of Verinag in South Kashmir's  Islamabad (anantnag) District. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a search operation has been launched 19 Rastriya Rifles, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF in Panzoo area of Verinag. March 31 The Jammu Kashmir Police has booked former Sessions Judge of Islamabad (anantnag) and national conference leader  for inciting violence against Forest Department. March 30 Waris Shah/ Sheikh Nadeem A 15 year old boy on Saturday afternoon died after falling down from an incomplete bridge in Kokernag area of South Kashmir's Islambad (Anantnag) district. The boy identified as Nazir Ahmad Bimla Son of Fareed Ahmad Bimla, a resident of Magam , Sona Brari, Kokernag drowned in Nullah Brengi today evening after falling down from a bridge he was walking on, Locals told The Kashmiriyat. CASO Launched in Arwani, Intense Clashes Erupt

March 25 Following a specific input about Militant movement, the Government Forces jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Mir Mohalla area of Arwani in South Kashmir's Islamabad (anantnag) district. On Monday morning, the forces including RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir police sealed all the entry and exit points to the Arwani area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a heavy contingent of forces reached this locality and are conducting a search operation in the area. Youth in large numbers hit the streets as soon as the search operation started. The forces fired tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protesting youth. However, the clashes were going on. A search operation was going on when this report was being filed.

OGW Escapes from Police Custody at Srinagar Court

ISLAMABAD
March 19 An Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants fled from Srinagar court on Tuesday afternoon. The OGW was brought from sub jail Mattan to Srinagar court for judicial remand where he managed to escape. Identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Rah of Qaimoh Kulgam, sources said, he escaped from court permises here in Srinagar. A police officer confirmed the incident and said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the fleeing OGW.

Train Crushes 60 year old Man to Death in Qazigund

March 19 Sheikh Nadeem A Man was crushed to death by a train near a railway track on Tuesday morning in Qazigund area of South Kashmir. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that 60-year-old man identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat, was mowed to death by a train on Tuesday in Qazigund area of south Kashmir. The deceased was a resident of Churat area in Qazigund. A Police official confirming the incident to The Kashmiriyat said that they have registered a investigation in the case.
