Gunshots Heard During CASO in Kulgam

May 29 A few Gunshots have been heard during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Zangalpora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam District. Reports reaching to The Kashmiriyat said that a joint team of Army RR, CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) the area. A police Source Confirmed the incident and said that the cordon was launched following inputs about the Movement of some suspected militants. The searches operation was underway in the village when this report was last filed.

1 Militant Killed During ongoing Encounter in Kulgam

May 22 One unidentified militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter with government forces at Gopalpora of kulgam district. Officials confirming the encounter said that a joint team of Government forces including 34 RR and SOG launched search Operation in the area following credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area. As forces intensified search operation towards a suspected spot, militants opened fire triggered encounter. In this exchange of gunfire, one militant has been killed, the official said, adding that, the cordon is still in place as more Militants are believed to be holed up in the area. Meanwhile the exchange of fire has stopped as per locals. Mobile internet services have been Snapped in South Kashmir's Shopian Kulgam Districts.

Hailstorm Damages Apple Orchards In Kulgam

May 01 Umaisar Ganie Hailstorm on Wednesday damaged several areas of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that heavy hailstorm in second half of day caused heavy damage to apple orchards and vegetable fields. As per news reports, the affected areas include Magzam, KB Pora, Mirwani, Gandwani, Nihama, Harwath, Jaibal, Hallan, Tangmarg and many other areas. We request government to assess the loss and compensate us accordingly,” a group of affected farmers said.

2 Minor Boys injured as Shell goes off Kulgam Area

May 01 Two boys have been injured after a shell exploded in Damhal Hanjipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that two young boys identified as Shahid and Ikhlaq were injured when they were playing with an un-exploded shell in the area. The duo was shifted to nearby PHC for treatment from where they were shifted to Kulgam’s district hospital for advanced treatment. Officials at Damhal’s Primary Health Care upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that Shahid has sustained injuries on his hand while as Ikhlaq suffered wounds in his face. A police official confirmed the incident said that police has started investigations into the matter.

Zero Votes Polled Out of 10151 in 5 Areas of Kulgam District

April 29 Amid clashes and a low voter turnout in the South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Monday, seven areas of Kulgam district witnessed zero percent polling. The Wanpora, Shamsipora, Turk Tachloo, Khudwani, Bugam areas of Kulgam district witnessed a zero percent polling out of a total of 10151 total voters. In Shamsipora out of a total of 1578 voters, zero turned out for polling, Election officials informed The Kashmiriyat. Similarly they said zero votes were polled in Wanpora out of a total of 1606 voters. April 29 One vote has been polled out of 2504 total votes in  the Uranhall area of Hom Shalibugh assembly segment of the Kulgam district in South Kashmir till 12 noon. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that out of 1059 votes in Uranhall-1 polling booth one vote has been cast, while in Uranhall-B, zero votes have been polled out of 768 and similarly in Uranhall C, zero votes have been cast out of total 768 votes.
