The residents of Wurbagh village in South Kashmir's Pulwama district are yearning for a footbridge for the last six years, which could connect at least seven villages. The work on the footbridge was started after the then People's Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Muhammad Khalil Bandh visited the area in 2016, but the same was never completed. A couple of days back, the dilapidated wooden footbridge collapsed due to the flood waters disconnecting at least half-a-dozen neighboring villages. Search operation in Shopian continues, Militants probably escaped: Officials

Militants reportedly managed to give slip to security forces after initial exchange of fire which took place on Saturday evening in Shirmal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. A top police officer told GNS that after initial exchange of fire between militants and security forces, there was no further contact with the militants. The search operation in the area is still underway, so far no fresh contact has been established. It seems militants might have escaped taking advantage of darkness after initial exchange of fire, the officer added. Yesterday a joint team of Police and army had launched cordon operation in Shermal after receiving specific input about the presence of some militants in the area.(GNS)
