Suhail Dar A 5-year-old boy was killed after allegedly being hit by a school bus in Dawood Pora in Brah area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a 5-year-old boy named Tameem Bhat son of Bilal Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Khul area was mowed down by a school bus while he was crossing the road on Wednesday morning. "We have complained several times about over speeding. the issue remains unresolved because of which today, we lost our child," a relative of the deceased boy said. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat he demanded action against the erring drivers.

An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday around 6.30pm, an oil tanker bearing the number JK02CR 7345 hit a scooty near the Khudwani bypass, injuring three persons. "In the said accident two pillion riders namely Nelofer wife of Mohammed Yaseen Mantoo and Zarka daughter of of Mohammed Yaseen Mantoo got injured and were evacuated to district hospital Anantnag," the official said. He said that Nelofer was declared dead on her arriver at the hospital, while her daughter Zarka is in critical condition. Pulwama Police yesterday received information from the residents of Lelhar village of Kakapora Pulwama that some locals detected an idol which was believed to be “three-headed goddess Vishnu, on this a Police team from Police Station Kakapora rushed towards the spot and taken the old idol into possession. After that Pulwama Police informed the archeological team about the same and after completing all legal formalities, Pulwama Police handed it over to the Archaeological Survey department of India, who will start research about its whereabouts and source. The source of this idol is not known yet. Latest reports suggest that efforts are still on to dig and excavate more such idols which can be old.

According to the protesters, mainly women, the residents face acute shortage of drinking water supply. They alleged that they have brought the issue to the notice of concerned department several times but to no avail They appealed the authorities to provide them the drinking water at an earliest so as to alleviate them of the routine sufferings. “The concerned department and government make only tall claims but we do not get drinking water,” the protesters said as per reports reaching GNS and urged higher authorities of concerned department to redress the issue with reasonable haste....

The District Magistrate (DM), Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today during a surprise inspection in Government offices found 07 employees of Municipal Committee Shopian and 20 employees of R&B division Shopian including one senior officer absent from their duties. Taking serious note of their unauthorized absence, the DM said that stern action shall be initiated against the absentees under rules. The DM also called for explanations from the officer/officials, who were found absent during the inspection.
