Opening Ceremony of Provincial level Table Tennis held at Shopian

The Department of Youth Services & Sports, District Shopian today organised the Provincial Level, Inter-District Competitions of Table Tennis for Boys U-17 and U-19 at Bismillah Hotel Shirmal, here. In the competition, all 10 districts of Kashmir Division are participating which include 86 student players. The inaugural function was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Yar Ali Khan, District Youth Services & Sports Officer Shopian, Syed Noor Ul Haq and the Activity Incharge DYSSO Shopian, Riyaz Ahmad Wachkoo. Shopian area residents aghast over absence of electricity for past four days

Meer Irfan The residents of Chottigam area in Shopian district are suffering immensely due to absence of electricity in the south Kashmir area. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the residents said that the electric transformer of the area was damaged four days ago, however, nobody has come to the area as of yet to repair it. "We have called the officials of the concerned electricity Department-PDD, several times, but they seem to be unconcerned to resolve our issues. We do not understand what has changed in Kashmir that our electricity bills were hiked. The transformers are still getting damaged. The redressal takes huge amount of time," a local resident said. DC Shopian inaugurates District Public Health laboratory at DH Shopian

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today inaugurated the District Public Health Laboratory at District Hospital Shopian. JDP, Khursheed Ahmad Khatana, CMO Dr.Arshad Tak, DIO Showkat Hussain Ganie and MS DH, Dr. Khalid and a gathering of officers and hospital staff were present at the event. The Laboratory has been set up under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of NHM. Meer Irfan Unknown burglars barged into a storage shed and stole nearly 420 boxes of apples in Pahnoo area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, unknown burglars broke into the shed of a local orchardist named Mohammed Ashraf Malik, a resident of Pahnoo. "When we came to our orchard on Monday morning, we witnessed that the tarpaulin sheet covering the boxes had been brought down and nearly 420 apple boxes packed in the store room stolen away," they said. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat a local grower told that we are already dealing with the rate downfall and now our apples are being stolen. After 10 years, building of a vital animal husbandry centre in upper belt of Shopian is incomplete causing inconvenience to people. Locals from Zawoora village of Shopian told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that authorities after repeated requests started construction of the Veterinary Centre in 2012 but since then they are waiting for its completion. Shakeel Khan, a local, said that the under-construction building was abandoned by the concerned authorities. Meer Irfan A youth has gone missing from his home in Chaigund area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Marifat ahmad Mugloo , 23,  son of Mohd Maqbool Mugloo a resident of Chaigund in Shopian has been missing from his home since 11 September, his family members told The Kashmiriyat. "Marifat left his home on Sunday for small work but did not return. We have been trying to call him since, but to no avail,” he said Ubaid's family has appealed general public to help them trace their son. FIR has been filed in the respective police station. Marifat is survived by four brothers, He was pursuing Graduation at Degree College in Pulwama, the family members said.

Grief hit the Shopian district Monday morning after the passing away of a renowned Islamic preacher at his ancestral home in the south Kashmir district. Mohammed Shaban Bhat, noted Islamic scholar from south Kashmir’s Shopian district, as per local breathed his last on Monday morning. As soon as the news of his death spread in the nearby areas, people thronged his house in the south Kashmir town in huge numbers. Hundreds of people converged to his Nimaz-e- Jinaza at central Hanfia Eidgah court road Shopian at 10 am on Monday morning. The deceased is known for his services to the educational sector in the south Kashmir district.
