Army Man commits Suicide in Shopian

January 12 An Army man posted in volatile district of South Kashmir's Shopian district has committed suicide on Saturday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that an Army man identified as Abishek Kumar posted with 34 RR shot himself early morning on Saturday. The Army man died on the spot, Sources added. Details rushing in.

Another CASO Launched in Shopian Area

January 11 Following a specific input about Militant movement, the Government Forces jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Daramdora area of Keegam in South Kashmir's Shopian District. On the evening of Friday, the forces including  44 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir police sealed all the entry and exit points to the Daramdora area.   The troopers reached the area following specific inputs about Militant movement in the area. Grenade Attack on Forces in Shopian

January 10 Suspected Militants on Thursday late evening hurled a grenade on forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that unknown persons attacked the forces’ Naka party at Hall, Shopian in South Kashmir's Shopian District.   As per initial reports, two Government Force personnel were injured in the attack. January 10 The Government Forces raided the Kanjullar area in South Kashmir's Shopian District late night on Wednesday and arrested at least five boys from the area. Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that Government Forces late night on Kanjulla broke into a few residential houses in this Shopian locality and arrested five boys from their houses.   The arrested have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat, Mohsin Rashid Lone, Showkat Ahmad Thockar and Azad Ahmad Itoo. Shopian Area Reels Under Darkness As Transformer Goes Defunct

January 06 Jahangeer Ganie The residents of Sugan area in South Kashmir's Shopian district have turned to the primitive forms of lighting as electricity has gone missing from the area for the past eight days. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat a resident of Ustadpora in Sugan said that the transformer in the area has gone defunct and the Power development department despite several requests to repair the transformer has not reached the village. "Kerosene lamps and gas lights are what these people use to illuminate our homes as authorities are unmoved towards our long pending basic demand," a local told The Kashmiriyat. Executive Engineer of Power Development Department could not be reached on his phone despite several attempts.
