4 Militants, 1 Trooper Killed in Shopian Encounter

November 20 Four militants and one para commando have been killed in an early morning encounter in the Nadigam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian. Sources told The Kashmiriyat  that an encounter erupted in the area around 3 am after the government forces including the army, J&K police and CRPF launched a CASO. As the government forces, after specific inputs about the presence of militants in the village, zeroed in on the spot where militants were suspected to be holed up, the militants fired at the forces triggering a gunfight. During the initial exchange of fire, sources said, a 23 Para soldier was killed and two others were injured. Abducted Shopian Youth Reportedly Released by Militants

November 18 Suspected Militants on Sunday evening released a youth who had been abducted from Memander area of South Kashmir's Shopian District today morning. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that unknown gunmen had abducted a civilian namely Suhail Ahmed Ganie son of Sheeraz Ahmed Ganie from his native in Memander area of Shopian. They said that the masked gunmen had picked him up from his native and whisked him away from the spot on Sunday morning. He has reportedly been released by the Suspected Militants and has already reached home. A Police official upon being contacted said that they are checking the authenticity of the information. Militant Hideout Busted in Shopian Area

November 18 The Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a Militant hideout in South Kashmir's Shopian District on Sunday evening. The Police informed that during a raid the Jammu Kashmir Police and 23 Para Unit Of Army busted a hideout in Yarwan village of south Kashmir's Shopian during the search operation On Sunday. They said that incriminating material including edibles, stores & sustenance items for winters was recovered from hideout.

November 18 Unknown gunmen on Sunday morning abuducted a youth from Memander area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. Two Local Militants Killed in Shopian Encounter

November 18 Two militants killed in a nocturnal gunfight in Reban Zainapora village of South kashmir’s Shopian district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a Joint Team of forces laid siege in Reban area of Shopian after receiving specific input about presence of militants there, as the team intensifying searches hiding militants fired on forces triggering gunfight. The Slain Militants have identified as Nawaz Ahmad Wagay son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Rebban Zainapora and Yawar Wani son of Ali Mohammad Wani resident of Batnoor Litter Pulwama. They were affiliated with militant outfit Al-Badar.

Unidentified Dead Body Found in Shopian Area

November 17 An unidentified Male body was found on Saturday afternoon in the Tongi Nallah in Landoora area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that locals spotted a throat slit body of an unidentified man in the Landoora village on Saturday afternoon. Four Youth Arrested During Nocturnal Raids in Shopain

November 17 Government forces have detained three youth during nocturnal raids in Sever Memander area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the forces raided several houses late last night in Memander Shopian and detained three youth from the area while one youth was detained from Heff area of this South Kashmir district. The arrested youth were identified as Sajad Thokar, Rayees Ahmed Zargar and Shabbir Ahmed, all residents of Memander area in South Kashmir's Shopian District. Meanwhile one more youth was picked up during a cordon and search operation in the Heff area of Shopian. (The Kashmiriyat).

Nocturnal CASO Launched in Shopian Area

The Government on Thursday launched a cordon and search operation in Aglar area of South Kashmir’s Shopian District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Thursday, the forces including 44 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police sealed all the entry and exit points to the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a heavy contingent of forces reached this Shopian locality and are conducting a search operation in the areas. Shopian to Shut Down on November 20 Against Shortage of Basic Facilities

November 14 TMBS(Traders and manufacturers Body) of shopian has called for shopian Bandh on 20 November against authorities not to provide basic facilities during the 'harsh winter'. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the members of the body said that the Government has failed to provide basic amenities of people of Shopian during the harsh winter. Man Injured in Bear Attack in Shopian

November 12 A man was wounded in a bear attack while he was working in his apple orchard in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Sunday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Ghulam Rasool Ganie was working in his apple orchard when a bear entered the orchard from a nearby forest and attacked and wounded him. "He cried  for help from and the villagers rushed to the spot and away the bear, and rushed Ghulam Rasool to a nearby hospital.
