Two hybrid militants of LeT were arrested along with arms and ammunition on Wednesday in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said here. Shopian police in a tweet, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) informed that two hybrids militants were arrested by Shopian police. They have been identified as Faizan Fayaz Bhat of Rafiabad and Yawar Nizam Mir of Konso Shopian. "Two hybrid terrorist of proscribed outfit LeT Faizan Fayaz Bhat S/o Fayaz Ahmed Bhat R/o Budan Rafiabad and Yawar Nizam Mir S/o Nizamuddin R/o Konso Shopian have been arrested by Shopian Police. Encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Baskuchan area of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Monday. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Baskuchan. Meer Irfan A 20-year-old youth from Drawani area of South Kashmir's Shopian district has been missing for last 2 days. Family members speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that Gazi Ahmad Bhat, Son of Sanaullah Bhat , a resident of Drawani Shopian went missing on 22nd August and has not returned yet. "He left home to play cricket at 8 am and we contacted him around 1:30 pm in the afternoon and he told us that he is going to Srinagar but he don't know anything about Srinagar," a family member said. He said that since then they have been trying to trace Gazi, but to no avail. All efforts by the family to trace him proved futile even as a missing report has been filed at the concerned police station in this regard.

Meer Irfan Jammu Kashmir Police on Wednesday sought the help of people in tracing a 60-year-old man missing from his home in Bonbazar Shopian since morning. According to a report lodged by his family at Shopian Police Station, Ab Gani Bhat S/O Qadir Bhar (60) left from his home in bonbazar Shopian this morning around 7:00 am and did not return till now. As per family, who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, the 60 year old was wearing a white Khan dress, half sleeve white jacket and a white skull cap. Militants reportedly managed to give slip to security forces after initial exchange of fire which took place on Saturday evening in Shirmal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. A top police officer told GNS that after initial exchange of fire between militants and security forces, there was no further contact with the militants. The search operation in the area is still underway, so far no fresh contact has been established. It seems militants might have escaped taking advantage of darkness after initial exchange of fire, the officer added. Yesterday a joint team of Police and army had launched cordon operation in Shermal after receiving specific input about the presence of some militants in the area.(GNS)

An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Shirmal area of south Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint of team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. A “faith healer” has been arrested along with two other persons by police in Shopian following the death of a woman allegedly after she was beaten up last night in the south Kashmir district, officials said on Wednesday. A police official told GNS that the woman, Souby Jan wife of Muzzafar Ahmad Sheikh of Damhal Hanjipora Kulgam, was beaten up by the “faith healer” last night, “apparent to exorcise some evil spirit” at the her parental home in Hanjipora Kachdoora Shopian. She was subsequently evacuated to District Hospital Kulgam where she breathed her last, the official said. A teenager who had gone missing from his home in Kutpora Shopian was found dead near the Wishow nalla in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
